Dear parents,
It’s been a while since we last spoke. But, thank you to the parents who responded to my last post for parents.
This one requires from you a little nostalgic reflection also, particularly on the 1980s and the films of John Hughes.
Films such as:
- Sixteen Candles
- Pretty in Pink
- The Breakfast Club
- Ferris Bueller’s Day Off
- Some Kind of Wonderful
Having grown up in the 1980s myself, I remember these films fondly; they resonated with me then and, if I am honest, still do. This is because they capture the teenage experience genuinely and explore the issues we faced (at the time) with honesty.
What we are interested in is whether you remember these films (or any other teen films), what is is that you enjoyed about them and how you felt (perhaps in hindsight) that they reflected the 1980s era. That is, what did they teach you, what did they reveal, show, demonstrate, prove, validate?
Feel free to comment on anything else to do with the films also.
