So, this week you have begun exploring, well, yourselves. During the week, many of you have, when asked questions in class, found it difficult to answer: “I don’t know how to say it!” or, my personal favourite, “I don’t know!”
For a generation surrounded, nay, saturated in information it is either a real worry that anyone can “not know”, or unsurprising because, lets face it, where does one begin? However, it is vital for your success that you do know and that you can “say it”. So, I have given you a couple of feature articles to read during the week.
One was called, “Who were the first Teenagers”, and the other, “The Invention of Teenagers”. I also gave you a copy of the Teenage Bill of Rights. By now you should have read these – and completed the activities.
Now, I want you to read the articles below.
Annotate them by simply writing your thoughts and reactions to, your ideas about, or questions next to the text every time you think of something. Highlight any words you don’t know and define them. In another colour, highlight any powerful quotes that you might draw upon in future discussions.
Once you have done this, think about what all of the articles together have led you to understand. Then, think some more.
Finally, write a 250 response to the following question: What is it that defines a person as “teenage”?
