From small seeds to global impact – Service in action
It brings us so much joy to see some of our past Primary students now taking part in our High School Service-Learning Tours overseas, living out our core value of Service in meaningful, tangible ways.
We like to think that perhaps the small seeds we planted here in Primary, through the simple everyday gestures of “service in action”, have taken root and flourished. Watching our students carry these values forward into new contexts is a reminder that Service truly lies at the heart of what we do and believe. It’s one of the qualities that makes our students stand out and grow into compassionate, engaged citizens.
Right now, our Vietnam Tour students are putting their hearts into raising funds to support the communities they will serve. We encourage our whole school community to get behind their upcoming Sausage Sizzle on 10 September.
Please check the poster for more information and support this fantastic initiative. Together, we can help their service go even further.

Reminder: Use of Disabled Parking Bays

We’ve been contacted by a member in our community who experienced difficulty when collecting their grandchildren recently. The disabled parking bays near the playground were occupied by vehicles without ACROD permits.
These bays are essential for those who genuinely need them and we kindly ask for everyone’s cooperation to ensure they remain available for ACROD permit holders only.
Thank you for helping us keep our school welcoming and accessible for all.
Father’s Day Stall
Children’s University
It is hard to believe we are in Term 3 and the countdown to the graduation event begins. For those who are new to the program, it is important to get your child’s passports stamped and up to date this term as the deadline for hours contributing towards this year’s graduation is fast approaching. There will be a final stamping date on the first day of Term 4 (Tuesday 14 October). As this is the first day back it is easy to forget. To avoid disappointment (and too much work for me to process by the deadline), I would recommend having all of your hours processed this term. Just a reminder that I am in the Primary forum each Thursday before school.
The graduation ceremony this year will be either Tuesday 25 November or Wednesday 26 November. As soon as I know which of these two ceremonies we have been assigned to, I will let you know. In the meantime, please pencil both dates in your diary.
If your child is close to accruing enough hours to qualify for graduation, a reminder to get them to explore the CU portal to get those final hours they need. Attached is a booklet I found this morning which explores the Victorian goldfields, you can earn up to 3.5 hours by completing this booklet and bringing it to show me at one of our passport stamping sessions.

COMMONLY ASKED QUESTIONS…
Can I spectate the Primary Athletics Carnival?
Families are welcome and encouraged to spectate the Primary Athletics Carnival. There will be a designated spectating area for families near the finish line. Spectators are not permitted in the House Bays designated for students and staff only. Spectators will need to bring their own chairs and/or picnic rugs for the spectating area. Spectators are welcome to
make their way around the oval to spectate the field events and team games, but please be mindful of track events and races that are taking place throughout the day.
Can I take photos/videos?
Parents/guardians may take photo or video recordings of their own child/children (provided other students are not identifiable and the images are not shared on social media). No photo or video recording is to be used as evidence for results or appeal. The judge’s decision is final. Disputing with officials sets a poor example for children and undermines the spirit of fair play.
Which events will my child be participating in?
Every child will have the opportunity to participate in every event at our Primary Athletics Carnival. We look forward to a day filled with enthusiasm, effort and enjoyment as our students take part in every event, in the spirit of fair play and inclusivity.
How does the House point and ribbon system work at the Athletics Carnival?
- Every student in Year 1 – 6 who participates in an individual event will receive at least 2 house points for their efforts.
- In our individual track and field events, students will receive house points and individual points based on their overall placings (times or distances).
- 1stplace: 10 points, 2nd place: 9 points, 3rd place: 8 points, 4th place: 7 points, 5th place: 6 points, 6th place: 5 points, 7th: 4 points, 8th: place 3 points, 9th place onwards: 2 points.
- It is important to note and explain to your child that some year groups will have multiple heats for track events. House points and place ribbons will be allocated and presented to students after all 50m, 100m or 200m heats have been run.
- For example– there may be three 100m race heats for the Year 3 girls category. If a student in Heat C runs the fastest time overall out of all runners in Heat A, B and C, then the student from Heat C will be awarded with 10 house points and the 1st place ribbon.
We encourage you to remind your child that the true spirit of our Athletics Carnival lies in participation, effort and enjoyment, rather than simply winning a ribbon. Celebrating personal achievements, effort and improvement fosters a positive and inclusive atmosphere where every child feels valued and proud of their own individual accomplishments. Emphasise the importance of doing your best, supporting others and having fun!
When is the Interschool Athletics Carnival?
The Year 3 – 6 NIPSSA Interschool Athletics Carnival will take place on Tuesday the 23 and Wednesday the 24 of September. The Interschool Athletics Team will be selected from the results at our Interhouse Athletics Carnival. More information about the carnival will be sent out via Consent2Go once the team has been selected.
Little Athletics is a fantastic way to keep fit and builds the foundation skills of running, jumping and throwing, which are all transferable to other sports. If your child is interested in participating in Little Athletics outside of school, Joondalup Little Athletics Centre is a fantastic local club – https://www.joondalupathletics.com.au The WA Little Athletics season runs from October until March.
If your child is going to be absent on Friday 29 August, please advise ASAP via email at kaliah.nicol@ststephens.wa.edu.au, as this helps with the planning of our event.
We look forward to seeing our students participate in the 2025 Interhouse Athletics Carnival!

Term 3, Week 2
A heartfelt start to Term 3
Yesterday, our whole Primary School gathered for a beautiful Welcome Worship. It was a special time of coming together in community, pausing to reflect and grounding ourselves in God’s presence as we enter a new season of learning and growth.
The theme of feelings spoke deeply to all of us, students and staff alike. We explored the importance of recognising, naming and honouring our emotions. Whether it’s joy, sadness, frustration or excitement, our feelings are a natural and important part of who we are.
We were reminded that it’s okay to feel, and that it’s important not to bottle our emotions up or let them “splash out” in unhelpful ways. Instead, we were encouraged to find safe ways to express and talk about our feelings, and to lean into the people around us when we need support.
Most importantly, we were reminded that God is always with us, through every high and low. He is a safe and constant presence we can turn to when emotions feel overwhelming, when we’re unsure of what to do, or when we simply need peace and comfort. What a beautiful truth for our students to carry in their hearts.
We are looking forward to hearing from Mrs Swartzentruber throughout this term in Worship as she continues to guide and inspire us with messages of faith, connection and emotional wellbeing.
What a joy to begin the term in such a meaningful way!

What will be on the menu? Something sweet or savoury or both! Hot and cold foods, or maybe food from other countries and what about the drinks. They can complete the following attachment for menu planning found on the CU portal and earn 30 minutes in their CU passport.

Term 2, Week 10
This week, our Primary School is alive with the vibrant energy of our annual Arts & Academic Festival, a cherished tradition that celebrates the courage and creativity of our students. From captivating performances to impressive academic displays, our young learners step beyond their comfort zones, embracing new challenges with enthusiasm and resilience.
Stepping out of one’s comfort zone is vital for personal growth. When children engage in unfamiliar activities, they build confidence, adaptability and a willingness to take risks, skills that are essential for lifelong learning and success.
The Arts & Academics Festival provides a platform for students to shine in diverse ways, be it through the arts or academics. This inclusive environment nurtures not only intellectual development but also emotional and social wellbeing.
A heartfelt thank you to our audience, parents, peers and staff, whose respectful and enthusiastic support creates a nurturing atmosphere for our students to thrive. Your encouragement plays a crucial role in fostering their growth and confidence.
We are incredibly fortunate to have such an enriching tradition in our school calendar. The Arts & Academic Festival is more than an event; it’s a celebration of our community’s commitment to holistic education and the development of well-rounded individuals.

The Power of Positive Thinking
At St Stephen’s School, we strongly believe in the power of positive thinking and the lasting impact it can have on a child’s mindset and wellbeing. Encouraging optimism and resilience helps children navigate life’s challenges with confidence and a sense of hope. Rather than viewing setbacks as failures, positive thinkers see them as opportunities to learn and grow. This mindset builds resilience, the ability to bounce back from adversity and keep moving forward.
Parents play a crucial role in supporting this approach. When families model positivity at home, speak encouraging words, and help children reframe challenges in a constructive light, they reinforce what we promote at school every day. Simple strategies like celebrating effort, not just outcomes, and talking openly about emotions and solutions can make a big difference.
This is not about ignoring difficulties, but rather equipping children with the tools to face them with courage and perspective. Together, home and school can nurture young people who are both positive and grounded, able to approach life with enthusiasm and strength.
By working together, we can help children develop a mindset that will serve them well far beyond the classroom. Let’s continue to build a supportive community that believes in our children’s potential.

Please note the interest in kindergarten exceeds the number of positions available so early registration is recommended.
SSS Reading Competition
The SSS Reading Competition 2025 is here, and we’re excited to inspire students to read as much as possible while raising funds for the Night on the Green.
This competition is not just about reading, it’s about fostering a love for stories, learning, and personal growth while supporting our community.
There are two ways to pledge your support:
- Per-Minute Sponsorship – Pledge an amount for each minute your child reads (e.g. 10c, 20c, 50c, or $1 per minute).
- Fixed Amount Sponsorship – Pledge a set amount (e.g. $10, $20, or any amount, regardless of reading time).
We encourage students to get their aunties, uncles, grandparents, friends, sporting teams, neighbours and loved ones involved; let’s make reading a shared experience and a celebration of literacy!
🏆 This year, we will have prizes for every year level! It all comes down to the time you spend reading, so make sure to set that timer when you dive into a good book and record it on your sponsorship form.
📖 Reading Competition Dates: 30th June – 1st August, 2025
💰 Submission Deadline: All money and sponsorship forms must be handed in by 8th August. Please submit your form and money in a sealed envelope at reception.
Be sure to keep an eye out for the posters around school and the sponsorship forms coming home during Week 10 whilst we celebrate our Primary Arts and Academic Festival. Let’s come together to create something truly special! Thank you for your support in making this competition meaningful and inspiring!

OSHClub
A reminder that OSHClub is running a competition to win a $10,000 family holiday. The more bookings you have the more chances you have to win. Check out all the information at https://www.oshclub.com.au/
With St Stephen’s School closed for an extra week these holidays and students returning to school Tuesday 29 July, OSHClub will be running pupil free days from Monday 21 July to Monday 28 July. The OSHClub children have chosen some themes and activities they would like to explore, so here is a brief look at what each day will look like.
Monday 21 July – Pyjama and Games Day: Children may wear their comfy, appropriate pyjamas and bring a teddy. They may also bring in a handheld device, (not to be shared) where we will plan 1 hour of screen time in the morning and afternoon or a favourite board game if they/you prefer.
Children may wear their slippers, but to ensure they can play outside on the playground they will also need to bring enclosed shoes to wear.
Tuesday 22 July – Food Day: We will be making a yummy lemon scotch finger slice for morning tea, our own subs and wraps for lunch and South African Milk Tart for afternoon tea so no need to bring food on this day unless there is something extra your child/children would like to eat.
Wednesday 23 July – Science Day: Children will have the opportunity to investigate, imagine and explore through the wonders of science.
Thursday 24 – Construction Day: Build a roller coaster, a car or a house. Today is all about construction. Children will have access to a huge variety of natural, recycled and processed resources of all shapes and sizes. What can you build today? Feel free to save up your recycling for today (please just make sure it is clean).
Friday 25 July – Bees and Mini Beasts: Making, searching for and learning more about bees and other mini beasts.
Monday 28 July – Back to School Party: Join the Party! A day of games and party fun before heading back to school tomorrow.
Children will need to bring recess, lunch and afternoon tea (except for Tuesday 22 July), a broad brim hat (caps are not appropriate for sun safe play) and a water bottle.
Bookings are now open. For any queries, please reach out to myself or Larissa when around the school or call us on 0478 066 366.
We are looking forward to a great week!
