Term 1 – Notices – Week 9

Dear Families,

We have come to the final week of Term 1. It has been so nice to get back to doing the things we love at School. Especially the opportunity of having our families joining us for Worship and Assemblies and a return of some of our wonderful community days (albeit slightly different due to current restrictions).

A beloved member of our staff will be leaving our School at the end of this term. Recently, Nicole Carrigg and her family have felt she needs more time to be at home with her children and foster child. She has thus made the difficult decision to resign and rather be available for relief positions across the school. In this way, she will have more flexibility to be at home when needed and come to work when the time allows.

Nic started with us in January 2014 as Receptionist/Administration Support Officer in the Primary before moving across to the ELC as PA (job share) to Deputy Head of Primary in April 2019. Nic knows our community well and will be missed by many. Fortunately, we will still see her across the school on relief days. We wish Nic and the family well and thank her for her wonderful years of dedication and service to the school.

God Bless Nic, and thank you for all that you have done and the care you show to others in our community. We look forward to seeing you soon in one of the Administration locations across the school.

Please be mindful of parking regulations on the verges around the School. Several of our residents are struggling with cars parking incorrectly and have informed the School. The Ranger has been notified and will possibly be out and about over the next few weeks. Thank you for your support as a community in keeping everyone safe.

If we do not see you before the break we would like to say Happy Easter, may God bless you and your family over the special break. We look forward to seeing you all next term when students return April 20, Term 2 2021.

Investing in the education of a disadvantaged child delivers long-term positive benefits for them, their family and potentially generations to come.

As we head into Week 7, I just wanted to start with a quick look back to Week 6 and thank Mr Parker, the Year 3-6 staff and many parents who helped to make the Swimming Carnival a fantastic success. A special congratulations to Timea for winning the event by a tiny 6-point margin!

Throughout this week in the ELC, the Book Fair is up and running so please come on in, have a look and buy a book.

With the recent relaxation of restrictions, we are moving back to having all Year 3-6 classes attend our Worship sessions. For now, our assemblies, as well as the ELC worships and assemblies will continue with the smaller, more intimate audience sizes. Of course, parents, please feel free to join us for these events.

On Friday this week, we will be celebrating our cultural diversity through Harmony Day. Please see the details below, and wear as much orange as you can on the day.

Term 1 – Notices – Week 6

Dear Families,

We had so much fun with a range of activities happening across the school last week. Today, Years 4 & 6 had their worship assembly, all about ‘The Keys’ and how they help us grow. Parents and families are always welcome to come and see Mr Steven, and the House captains in action at this fun-filled, Bible-based worship.

On Wednesday 10 March, there is a Biblical Studies Coffee morning for parents from 8.30am to 9.30am in the Primary Village. Please come along and hear about what is being taught in Biblical Studies, meet other parents and spend time together. Later on Wednesday evening, we are holding the ‘Connecting in Conversations’ evening. This is a chance for parents to come and hear from the school’s leadership. The evening will run from 6:45pm until approximately 7:45pm in the Year 3-6 Primary Village. We hope to see you there.

This Thursday 11 March, we are holding a Twilight Tour Duncraig Campus 5.30pm to 6.30pm. If you know of people that may be interested a future enrolment in our School, please let them know. It is a wonderful opportunity to meet staff and show case the learning that is taking place across the school.

Friday 12 March

Mrs Egan’s class are holding their class assembly at 9.00am in the ELC Forum. Parents and families of 1E are invited to come and see the class assembly. Over at 3-6 they have the Primary Interhouse Swimming Carnival at HBF Arena Joondalup.

Please also check the blog below for a range of upcoming events!

As we look over the events that are available each week for our students, it is a reminder of how lucky we are to participate in these activities at this current time in our world. We are truly blessed in being able to do so much as a school community and we are very grateful. We also pray for others across the world who’s journey has been quite different from ours in recent months.

Rejoice always, pray continually, give thanks in all circumstances; for this is God’s will for you in Christ Jesus. 1 Thessalonians 5:16-18

Have a wonderful week.

There are many worthwhile causes to support throughout the year and this is one that I would like to draw attention to. In 2014, my then three year old daughter was diagnosed with Leukaemia. Thanks to a privileged medical system and God’s mercy, my daughter is now fit and well. She is in her fifth year since treatment finished and her recovery has been very positive.

Throughout that treatment period and even beyond, the support for families dealing with blood cancers has been amazing. Fundraising initiatives like the Greatest Shave helped our family through a difficult time of our lives. We are extremely grateful to all of the selfless people who have generously given to this cause.

To further the cause, I would like to support the World’s Greatest Shave at St Stephen’s School. For those interested in supporting this fundraising effort, these are the details…

  1. Our Greatest Shave Day will be held on Thursday 1 April(last day of term 1)
  2. Participating on the day can be done in the following ways

a.       Register online with parent permission (parents please email me at daniel.parker@ststephens.w.aedu.au to express consent), fundraise and then have hair shaved or cut (you must be registered and have sent in parental permission and fundraised to do the shave or cut)

b.       Don’t register online, but still colour your hair at home or wear a wig and then bring a donation on the day

  1. Students/staff/parents can support by giving online or registering as a participant at the link below

I am fully aware that there are many worthwhile causes to support, so please do not feel any obligation to give to this fundraising, but of course we welcome it if you are willing and able.

Term 1 – Notices – Week 5

Dear Families and Students,

We hope you had a lovely long weekend break. We are now near the halfway point of this term! Although our start to this term begun a little differently, it is wonderful to see the students settled in their classes and school routines.

On Friday 5 March, the Pre Primary and Kindy students will be attending Worship. Parents and families members of these classes are welcome to join us at Worship. Pre Primary also have their Wet Day later in the day (see the Pre Primary blogs for further information). Also on Friday, the Year 3 students have an excursion to AQWA and 6LK have their assembly.

On Wednesday 10 March, we are holding the ‘Connecting in Conversations’ evening. This is a chance for parents to come and hear from, and of course talk to, the school’s leadership. The evening will run from 6:45pm until approximately 7:45pm in the Year 3-6 Primary Village.

We hope you have a wonderful week.

Kind regards,

Jarrod Heglund and Hannah Lockwood-Jones

The Starkick program promotes inclusion, equality and opportunity. Starkick caters for children who by circumstance or choice are unable to join into the club’s existing football programs. Children who may need extra support or time to achieve their football goals are supported by a team of volunteers.

Starkick aims to cater for all disabilities and runs by a simple mantra “If you want to play we will find a way”!
