Term 2 – Notices – Week 6

Dear Parents,

With swimming lessons done for another year, we just wanted to say thank you for having your children so well prepared. Everything went so smoothly, and our Pre Primary students did beautifully with getting prepared and changed after their lessons.

In our 3-6 worship session this morning, Mr Steven encouraged the students to be a good friend, in order to have good friends. He was full of inspiration and great advice, with a big take away being that it’s important to be an attentive friend – knowing when your friend might need some extra help or support. While this was delivered specifically to the 3-6s, this is something that we can all take on board.

We have a few events coming up this week:

Tuesday

  • Year 4 excursion to the Shipwreck Museum

Wednesday

  • Year 5 excursion to Pennisula Farm

Thursday

  • Kindy incursion with ‘Farmer Mick’ and the Farm Yard on Wheels ‘
  • Year 6 and 7 Rookie Debating round 3

Friday

  • Kindy have a free dress day and can bring their favourite animal toy
  • Mrs Mason’s Pre Primary Class are having their class assembly.
  • Year 3B Assembly

Waiting on the 3-6 oval

As you are aware, the MLS (Multi-Learning Space) construction is underway and we have had to change the access to/from the south end of the Primary oval. With this in mind, we have noticed a number of students waiting to be collected after school on the street side of the fence. Purely in the interest of safety, we do require our students to be waiting on the oval side of the fence, away from where the cars are parking. We appreciate your support with this as we work to keep our students safe.

On a similar note, this is just a reminder that students waiting at Kiss and Drive are not to be playing on the playground. Children whose parents are on site and are actively supervising them may play on the ship playground. This simply allows for the Kiss and Drive to flow more smoothly.

Kind regards,

Jarrod Heglund & Hannah Lockwood-Jones

Reminder to parents:

When your child is going to be absent, please send an email to absenteedunpri@ststephens.wa.edu.au  Please email your child’s teacher as well.  Or you can phone the ELC office on 9243 2480 or Primary Office on 9243 2102.  Please provide this information as soon as you possibly can.  The class role is called at 8.40am.

If a student arrives after the 8.35am bell, a parent must sign them in on the green form at the Primary office.  If a student has a music lesson and arrives after 8.35am, they must come to the office and advise staff of their arrival.

Term 2 – Notices – Week 5

Dear Parents,

I hope this blog post finds you well as we start Week 5 of Term 2. This week, the Year 3 students will start their swimming lessons and lessons will continue for our Pre Primary, Year 1,  2 & 4 students. The students have been enjoying the bus rides to and from the pool and have done so well in being organised at the pool. We also have a lot less lost property this year!

Unfortunately, there are no worships or assembly gatherings at the ELC due to the current swimming lessons. At 3-6, 6LT will be holding their class assembly. We look forward to finding out about what they have been learning this term. Please feel free to come and watch 6LT’s assembly too.

Wishing you a wonderful week ahead.

Hannah Lockwood-Jones & Jarrod Heglund.

SEW MUCH FUN!

I am searching for some fabulous parents (or grandparents, aunties, uncles etc!) who would be willing to donate their time and expertise to the designing and/or sewing of costumes for our primary production, Aladdin Jr!

If this sounds like something you’d love to help with, please email alison.hignett@ststephens.wa.edu.au.

Many thanks!

Mrs Hignett

Let’s keep healthy

If your child is unwell, showing symptoms such as coughing, runny nose, temperate, sore throat, please keep them at home.  This is to ensure we reduce the risk of spreading illness and safeguard all our students while learning at school.

Also please remind your child to maintain personal hygiene, washing hands, sneezing into their elbow and discarding of their tissues in the bin.

We appreciate your support in this matter.

Playing at School After Hours

Parents are reminded that there are no staff on duty before 8:10am.  If at all possible, we would appreciate students arriving at school after 8:10am as we are unable to offer supervision until then.

In the afternoon, staff are on duty from 3:10pm – 3:30pm. To ensure the safety and wellbeing of our children, we ask that students are collected before 3:30pm, or that parents are present after 3:30pm to provide supervision where they are playing.  We also request children do not enter the buildings at any time unsupervised.

Thank you for your kind consideration in this regard.

Term 2 – Notices – Week 4

Dear Friends and Families,

We hope all the special ladies who attended our recent Mothers’ Day celebrations enjoyed their time at the ELC and 3-6. We certainly enjoyed hosting and seeing the return of people to our campus. It was a lovely morning and our students really enjoyed spending time with their loved ones. A big thank you to all those who did attend and wore a mask and help us adhere to the requirements from the Department of Health and Education.

Many things are happening across the Primary school at both the ELC and 3-6. This week, swimming lessons are taking place across the Primary school. Pre Primary – Year 2 at the ELC, and the Year 4 students are currently taking lessons at Craigie Leisure Centre. Next week, after NAPLAN, the Year 3s will also be participating in swimming lessons. So, just for clarity, from Monday 17 May – Friday 21 May PP to Year 4 will all have swimming lessons at Craigie Leisure Centre.

Unfortunately, there will be no worship at the ELC for the next two weeks due to swimming. Worship at 3-6 will be taking place both weeks on Monday morning. Parents are more than welcome to attend.

Have a wonderful week.

Hannah Lockwood-Jones and Jarrod Heglund

PARENTS PARKING AT 3 –  6 CAMPUS

We would like to remind parents of the need to consider others and the safely of the children when driving and parking around the school.

Parents are reminded that:

The Staff bays are not to be used for student drop off/pick up at any time.  Please use the parent car parks or Kiss and Drive facility.

When dropping off children in the Kiss and Drive facility, please ensure children disembark from the car from the pavement side and not from the road side.

The Kiss and Drive facility is supervised and offers a very smooth pick-up option after school.  Parents are asked to please remain in their cars, parking closely within the demarcated lines.

Parents please ask your children to stay close to Kiss and Drive facility when they are being collected from there.  This will eliminate the queues of cars trying to access Kiss and Drive in the afternoon.  Staff have advised children to sit down in their classes, inside the fence and wait to be called by the duty teacher.

Thank you for your support in this matter.

Thank you for reading this week’s blog. This is a great way for us to convey important and noteworthy information to you, so your engagement with the blog is appreciated.

Here are a few important dates for you to take note of:

  • Tue 4th – PP Alphabet Dress-up Day
  • Fri 7th – Mothers’ Day celebrations (ELC and 3-6)
  • Week 4 – Swimming lessons for PP-4 (except Year 3)
  • Week 4 – NAPLAN for Years 3 and 5

MLS Construction Update

We are very excited to let you know that the very first stages of the construction of our new Multi-Learning Space will begin tomorrow. From tomorrow morning you will start to see changes, with the first of those being the safety fencing being put up. It is important to be aware of this as this will alter the access to the oval at the southern end of the campus.

The placement of the fence will remove access to the current walkway that is used to move to and from the cars that park on that verge. In order to accommodate for this change, we will be creating a new access gap in the fence closer to the basketball courts. It is also likely that some parking along that verge will be impacted at times, so please take this into account as you drop off and collect your children.

For those of you whose children ride their bikes to school, it will be good for you (and them) to know that the bike racks currently between the demountable buildings will be moved to be alongside the basketball courts.

This is the start of a very exciting time for the school and we look forward to keeping you updated on the progress as time goes on.

New Staff Member

In other wonderful news, we are please to let you know that we have a new teacher, Mrs Emma Menegaldo, in Year 4. Mrs Menegaldo has taken over the reigns in 4D and is already becoming a valued part of the team. She is an experienced primary teacher with a genuine passion for bringing the best out in children. As you see her around, please be sure to welcome her to our community.
