Term 3 – Notices – Week 1

Dear Parents,
Welcome to Term 3! We hope you’ve had a blessed holiday with your family and we are excited to be welcoming your children back to school tomorrow. We have a wonderful term planned, full of great events and learning.
  • Wednesday – Years 3 and 4 Digital Learning Journey
  • Thursday – Kindy Storytime Incursion
  • Friday – NAIDOC Week assembly and activities
3-6 Construction Updates
I just wanted to give you a quick update on the construction that has occurred over the holidays. As you come back to school tomorrow, you will notice that the construction of the Multi-Learning Space is well underway (albeit slightly delayed by the weather over the holidays), and things are still on track nicely. We are anticipating that we could see some walls going up in the next few weeks.
You may also notice a large blue ‘pump’ that has been installed near the entrance to the kiss and drive. This is a new filter to reduce maintenance, and add longevity, to the school’s irrigation systems. Soon to come is a structure to make this pump more pleasing to the eye.
Due to the construction happening, there have been a number of areas that have been re-paved, so please be cautious as you walk around some areas that may have a layer of sand around.

Spelling in 3-6

Over the previous year or so, we have been examining our approach to Spelling and have been looking into methods, approaches and programs that could be used to enhance the learning and engagement that our students have. As part of this process, this term, in Years 3-6, we will be trailing a program called Sound Waves, instead of Words Their Way.

Sound Waves is a research-based program that works on the phonetic approach to learning how to spell. As we progress through the term, we will be assessing the merits of the program, as we look to how we will teach Spelling in the future. One change that you may notice is that word lists won’t be sent home as part of the homework. This doesn’t mean that Spelling homework won’t happen, but it will just be done differently.

If you would like to find out more about Sound Waves, they have provided a document specifically for parents, that you can find here – https://www.fireflyeducation.com.au/downloads/Sound_Waves_An_overview_for_parents.pdf

Any parents that have expertise or even familiarity in these events, I would love some help. Please email me at daniel.parker@ststephens.wa.edu.au if you are able to help. It will be possible for you to disappear for a moment so that you can witness your child’s efforts in another event.

Dear Parents,

EXTRA CURRICULAR ACTIVITIES: TERM 3, 2021

We are excited to continue the extra-curricular activities at the beginning of Term 3.  Once again, parents will utilise the online booking system, Bookwhen.

We commence the activities for Term 3 in Week 3, on Monday 9 August 2021.    These will run for 6 weeks, finishing in Week 8, ending Friday 17 September 2021.

Your child/children from PP to Year 6, are welcome to participate in an extra curriculum activity at their respective ELC or 3 – 6 campus (see list below of activities).  It is important that children understand that they must commit to the activity for the whole 6 weeks.  For the activities running after school, there is a short afternoon tea break, so please pack something healthy for them to enjoy.   At the conclusion of their session, please be prompt when collecting your children in the afternoon.  Please click on the following link https://bookwhen.com/ststephensschool_duncraig (or head to the Parent Portal and click on Plan the Day>Primary School Clubs and click on the Enrol button). Places are limited for each activity so please only enrol in one activity and allocation is on a ‘first in’ basis.   Please continue to register your name on the wait list for an activity if it is full.

Parents are required to register using an email address and password then each student can be registered in preparation for enrolment. Please ensure that all areas are completed.

Activities will be open on Bookwhen for student enrolments on Wednesday 30 June.

When enrolments open on 30 June, registration is required before you can enrol your child in an activity.

We look forward to a term full of activity and fun.

If you require any further information, please contact the ELC or Primary Office.

Kind regards.

Hannah Lockwood-Jones & Jarrod Heglund
