Lakeside Food Cart Project

Currently we participate in the Perth CBD Food Rescue which is a UCW volunteer based service. Volunteers collect surplus food at the end of the business day from participating cafes. The food collected will assist some of the 9000 people currently living rough in our community.

St Stephen’s have witnessed a growing need in the northern suburbs of families and individuals that are in desperate need of assistance. We have a strong relationship with UCW Merriwa hub and support them in various other forms of Service Learning.

The school is now in possession of two carts, one will replace the older UCW CBD cart, and the other, partly sponsored by Joondalup Rotary, will commence a service at Lakeside Joondalup next term. This is a joint community project commencing with a weekly collection and hopefully growing from there.

Primary and Secondary students and staff will each separately assist in a Wednesday weekly collection once a month. The other Wednesdays will be covered by Rotary, UCW volunteers, and hopefully our generous families. It is a wonderful opportunity for parents and their children to participate in volunteering together.

The run will commence after school at 4.15 pm approximately and should conclude by 5.30 pm. Therefore students will not be missing out on school time. We are currently collating a roster and you will soon be supplied with information sheets about the run. I am more than happy to chat with all that participate in the service.

UCW will arrange for collection of the food at the conclusion of the run, your role is simply to collect the food.

We look forward to our launch of this St Stephen’s initiative and sure that the donations will be appreciated.

Scholastic Book Club orders for Term 2 are now open and orders will close on 20 June.

The easiest way for families to order and pay for Book Club is to use the online LOOP platform. This will ensure that students get their orders, which are delivered to school for free, and that the correct payment is received. Please use the link to register and start your order www.scholastic.com.au/loop

LOOP is also available as an app, for both Apple and Android devices.

Families who order via LOOP will receive a free All About Me journal with their first order, a reusable book bag with their second order and a poster and bookmark for those who place their third order for the year.

Please note there is no cash payment facility for orders.

Thank you to everyone who ordered from Book Club in Term 1. St Stephens Carramar earned $197 in Scholastic Rewards, as 20% of what you spend goes back to the school. Your support, in ordering from Book Club, has allowed the school to buy Literacy Pro reading student licences, as well as additional books and teaching resources.

Thank you so much for your support.  We hope you will continue supporting our students through your Book Club purchases throughout 2019.
