Over the past few weeks, Yr 12 English students have been viewing, analysing and exploring two award winning film texts, Gran Torino and Cartel Land. These texts, which both offer unique insights into the complexity of being human, have allowed students to engage with many of the more difficult concepts in the Yr 12 ATAR English course.
Importantly though, as can be seen in the images below, students have had the opportunity also to discuss and debate a range of important matters that have arisen from their viewing. With issues of race, class, gender, immigration, drug enforcement and justice at the core of these discussions, students spent three periods last week debating with one another the value of these texts in exploring the human condition.
Comments from the three English teachers, Mr Crewe, Mrs Battersby and Mr Taylor, indicate that it was some of the best learning and engaged debate we have seen thus far. Well done to the Yr 12s involved.
