Shane McMullan from Into the Mask Theatre hosted a three-hour Commedia dell’arte workshop with Carramar Year 9 Drama students last week. There was lots of laughter as students brought characters to life through physically-demanding movements and learned the tricks of the artform that is more than 500 years old ahead of an upcoming assessment.

Thanksgiving Service
Switch to Secondary
Transitioning into Secondary School can be a bit daunting for students and parents as their children move into the next stage of their schooling. We have a few events coming up for parents of Year 7 students to come and chat and see how they are adapting in class.

A Time to Reflect
Carramar Year 2 students recently had an opportunity to hear Bible stories told by the big kids. Year 9 students read their storybook Bibles to the Year 2 students as part of their Biblical Studies curriculum – they each creatively condensed the Bible into just 15 pages for the younger students. Teachers say amazing Bibles were created by the Year 9 students, from digital storybooks to interactive books.

Fitness Fanatics
The adrenaline from the latest School tour may still be pumping for some of our cross-campus Year 11 and 12 students who were lucky enough to visit the Australian Institute of Sport! These super sportspeople travelled to Canberra to learn from sporting professionals, take part in strength and conditioning exercises and sports simulation. Their training wouldn’t be complete without a recovery session in a 15℃ pool, of course!
Celebrating 10 Years of Cycling
This year marks the 10th anniversary of a wonderful St Stephen’s School tradition – Ride for a Reason. This Thursday 15 March at 7.30am students, parents and staff will cycle around Lake Joondalup to raise vital funds for some important causes. Budding Scientists Impress the Best
Hard work has paid off for six Carramar Year 11 students who recently (and bravely!) presented to parents and scientists at Murdoch University. After completing a collaborative research project at school, students presented their findings on the effect of germinating wheat grains on the levels of allergenic gliadins that cause serious problems for coeliac sufferers. This important research is an ongoing project of Adjunct Professor Chris Florides of the Biological Sciences Department at Murdoch University. Carramar Head of Science, Elizabeth Kirby said the professionalism and detail involved in the students’ presentation was very admirable.
Students Bradley Doig, Rajit Bose, Munish Senghani, Phoebe Watts, Georgie Waddell and Oliver Williams acquitted themselves most admirably and gave a detailed and insightful account of the aim, methodology and results of this research.

Exploring Engineering
Year 12 Carramar students recently visited UWA to experience an Engineering Showcase. Students learned about each discipline of Engineering on offer at UWA and were able to participate in activities relating to the course. It was also a great opportunity for the students to get first-hand advice from UWA volunteers, who answered the students’ questions about university life, workplace experiences and job opportunities in Engineering.
