ST STEPHEN’S GLOBAL INDONESIAN SERVICE TOUR

St Stephen’s School would like to announce its inaugural Indonesia: Bali Life Foundation Service Tour 2018 open to students currently studying in Years 9 and 10 (Years 10 and 11 2018). Bali Life Foundation is a small charity based in Jimbaran, Bali where they care for and educate young disadvantaged children and youth.

Our students will engage in volunteer work at the orphanage as well as the Bali Life support services within the locality of central and southwest Bali. These services include Suwung Community School, Bali Life Sustainable Community Garden, Kuta Street Kids and Mothers Program, and the Training and Education Community Centre.

 

The tour will consist of 16 students and 3 staff from across both campuses and will be departing 17 April, returning 24 April, 2018 (first week of the April holidays). The approximate cost of the tour will be $1200.

 

We will be seeking expressions of interest from students in October 2017.

Maggie Dent’s new seminar “Nurturing Kids’ Hearts and Souls”

We are delighted to announce tickets for Maggie Dent’s new seminar Nurturing Kids’ Hearts and Souls are now available.

This event is proudly presented by Duncraig Primary School P&C (public school) and supported by St Stephen’s School.

We are excited to have Maggie back at our Carramar Campus following her outstanding presentation in 2015. Originally planned to be held at an alternate venue by the organisers (Duncraig Primary School P&C), we are thrilled that our facility support has enabled an opportunity for our parents to attend as well.

The seminar will focus on exploring the unspoken dimension of raising healthy children, and the nurturing of children’s hearts and souls. Children are struggling with the modern world and this will show you why and what can be done in order to raise healthy, happy kids.

Maggie will explore EQ and SQ (the emotional and spiritual equivalent of IQ), the role of imagination, intuition, play and how to strengthen the human spirit in your home.

Tickets are limited so please book early to avoid disappointment.

The John Curtin Undergraduate Scholarship 2018 is now open for nominations. The scholarship is for academically gifted students (in the top 5% of students) who have excelled in a wide range of endeavours and have given their talents and energies to the community around them. Candidates must demonstrate John Curtin’s qualities of vision, leadership, and community service.

NAPLAN Results

Individual NAPLAN reports and the explanatory brochure were distributed to students vis Homeroom on Thursday 24 August. While the test represents a single snapshot on a specific day, it does provide useful information about both the group of students and about individual students.

Professor Fiona Wood presentation

During Science Week the Year 12 Biology and Human Biology students were treated to a presentation by renowned scientist and plastic surgeon Professor Fiona Wood. Quantum theory aside, at this moment in time it is still difficult for someone to be in two places at the same time so  thanks to our innovative technology  whilst Professor Wood was ‘live at Duncraig’ our students could take part in the presentation using our extended classroom facility.

Professor Wood’s greatest contribution and enduring legacy is her work pioneering the innovative ‘spray-on skin’ technique (Recell), which greatly reduces permanent scarring in burns victims. Professor Wood patented her method in 1993 and today the technique is used worldwide.

Professor Wood spoke about what motivated her to begin her journey, how the technology was developed, how it is still being improved upon and what is her next challenge.

In Science there are always more questions and challenges.

 

Important notice: National data collection on students with a disability

Dear Parents,

The Nationally Consistent Collection of Data on school students with disability (NCCD) provides all Australian schools, education authorities and the community with a clear picture of the number of students receiving adjustments because of disability in schools, and the adjustments they are provided to enable them to participate in education on the same basis as other students.

The Australian Education Regulation 2013, requires that all schools, provide information to the Australian Government Department of Education and Training (the Department) for the purposes of the NCCD.

The information that Schools must give to the Department includes, in relation to each student with a disability at a school:

  • the student’s level of education (i.e. primary or secondary)
  • the student’s category of disability (i.e. physical, cognitive, sensory or social/emotional)
  • the student’s level of adjustment (i.e. support provided within quality differentiated teaching practice, supplementary, substantial or extensive adjustment).

Golf

The St Stephens Carramar golf team of Rhys Craven, Kirsten Rudgeley and Matthew Pickersgill braved the terrible conditions on Monday and took part in the WA High Schools Cup.

The team finished a creditable 13th out of 50 teams. Congratulations one and all!

 

Basketball

Year 7,8 and 9 students from Carramar competed in the Alkimos and Beach division basketball carnival and our girls team have progressed into the northern suburbs championships!

Well done to all those who competed.
