Innovative Award

The Abydos app, developed by St Stephen’s School and Edith Cowan University, has been named a finalist in the Western Australian Information Technology and Telecommunication Awards (WAITTA) INCITE Awards for the Most Transformative Impact on Education.
The gamification app uses the theme of ancient Egypt to teach primary students about fractions, and research has shown a group of Year 6 students who used the app scored 10.5 percent higher than those who didn’t after just two sessions a week for four weeks using the app.

Abydos has been integrated into classroom teaching for Year 6 students at St Stephen’s.

The finalists were announced on Friday 15 June, with the winners to be named in later this month.

Congratulations to all involved – such a coup for our innovative School! Best of luck for the June announcement.

Kodos Carramar

Congratulations to our Carramar Secondary students who produced some impressive results at last Friday’s Interschool Badminton Competition! Competing against students from Years 7 – 12 from all over Perth, Ansu Soney and Jeevna Heer (Year 9) took out first place in the girls’ category, while Ashwin Soney and Tom Van Den Bussche (Year 10) were runners-up in the boys’ category! Well done to all our students.

Convincing Win

Last week, at none other than the Supreme Court of WA, St Stephen’s Carramar’s novice Mock Trial team scored an upset win over an experienced bunch of Year 12 lawyers-to-be. Though not quite enough to propel them into the Finals, the convincing argument and impressive display of potential from the St Stephen’s team bodes very well for next year. Well done!

Sophie Dickson (Y10), Vishu Parmer (Y11), Sophie Mitchell (Y10), Alex Cordell (Y12), Matthew Smith (Y11), Claire Graham (Y10), Jess Cruickshank (Y10), Sheida Sabeti (Y11), Marcus Ferguson (Y12)

Out of this World Debating

The Theatre was buzzing last Wednesday as Year 6 students from Carramar and Duncraig headed into their Rookie Debating Grand Final. The teams debated whether ‘Space travel is a waste of time and money’ with both sides presenting well-rounded and convincing arguments. In the end, it was Carramar’s rookie debaters who took out the top spot – by just one point!

Well done to all our Debating students.

Fun and Games

Carramar students, with help from teachers Mrs Renchia Clark and Mrs Beth McCoy, hosted a morning tea for special guests from Rocky Bay recently. The fun-filled morning wouldn’t be complete without bingo and board games, of course!

Wildlife Warriors

Carramar’s Year 7 students braved the rain this week to do their bit for the environment. Teaming up with the City of Wanneroo, our students have been planting trees throughout local parks, aiming to give back to the community and contribute to local sustainability.
