Ride For A Reason

On Thursday 15 March Carramar Campus held our 10th annual Ride For A Reason.

80 students, 18 parents and 15 staff left SSS oval at 7:30 in the morning for a 10km, 20km or 40km ride around Lake Joondalup to raise money for charity. This year we were able to donate $800 to Bali Life Foundation.

Over the past 10 years we have had 1200 riders raise over $12,000 and have covered over a staggering 30,000km – that is 5 return trips to Melbourne or three quarters of the way around the earth!!!!!  We have made donations to Raw Impact Cambodia, World Bicycle Relief, Uniting Care West, Tranby House for the homeless, Food Rescue and Bali Life Foundation.

A HUGE thank you to all the riders and volunteers who helped out.

Out of this World

Congratulations to Year 9 students Jiyona Jipson and Vivek Desai (Carramar) and Lauren Bates and Noah Kane (Dunraig) who have been selected to represent St Stephen’s School at Space Camp USA. They will be part of a 70-member delegation of young Australian students visiting America in October. Among a range of exciting activities, they’ll visit the Californian Science Centre in Los Angeles and the US Space and Rocket Centre in Alabama. We are beyond excited for them! LIVE IN 3… 2… 1…

Our Year 10-12 Media students from Carramar and Duncraig campus’ took a trip to the newsroom recently, getting an exclusive behind-the-scenes look at Channel 9 studios. As well as seeing how the magic happens behind the camera, students took turns reading the news in front of it too!

Take a look at their awesome experience.

Hack for Harmony

Last week, 6 of our gifted and talented students attended Hack for Harmony at HBF Arena hosted by City of Joondalup. The task for the day was to develop an online solution for Joondalup City to attract more international students to the city. Our team won an award for their 60 second pitch on the business idea 5to9 –  Connecting students with work in Joondalup.

Their business idea 5to9 aims to make it easy for local businesses to access the international student workforce and for students to find casual work in the area.

A big congratulations to the team consisting of Tom Cordell, Cameron Kiss, Shayan Hirani, Abigail Legge, Falgun Batavia and Shayan Hirani.

Ancient Theatrics

Shane McMullan from Into the Mask Theatre hosted a three-hour Commedia dell’arte workshop with Carramar Year 9 Drama students last week. There was lots of laughter as students brought characters to life through physically-demanding movements and learned the tricks of the artform that is more than 500 years old ahead of an upcoming assessment.

Switch to Secondary

Transitioning into Secondary School can be a bit daunting for students and parents as their children move into the next stage of their schooling. We have a few events coming up for parents of Year 7 students to come and chat and see how they are adapting in class.

Carramar Year 7 parents can see the teaching and learning first-hand as they tour several Year 7 classrooms followed by afternoon tea, an open discussion and Q&A. This is on Wednesday, 21 March at 1.30pm. To reserve a spot, go to www.trybooking.com/TZIA.

A Time to Reflect

Carramar Year 2 students recently had an opportunity to hear Bible stories told by the big kids. Year 9 students read their storybook Bibles to the Year 2 students as part of their Biblical Studies curriculum – they each creatively condensed the Bible into just 15 pages for the younger students. Teachers say amazing Bibles were created by the Year 9 students, from digital storybooks to interactive books.

Genesis 1:1: In the beginning, God created the heavens and the earth.
