Soup Kitchen Stars

Last Thursday Carramar students Natasha Hollier (Year 12) and Amber Bertoldo (Year 10), along with their teacher Mrs Justine Brightwell, assisted at the Salvation Army Soup Kitchen drive in Northbridge. The morning began when they left St Stephen’s at 6am, headed for the Perth CBD, where they then served breakfast to those less fortunate. Little do some know, this routine has been taking place once a month for the past year. It’s wonderful to see students and staff alike dedicated to serving members of our wider community.

“Just Keep Swimming, Just Keep Swimming…….”

Our Carramar secondary students definitely dived into the second day of Swim Camp – they even took part in a fitness circuit to really wake them up! Students took advantage of the local swimming spot at Hillarys Marina for a lovely morning swim session and managed to squeeze a spot of beach volleyball into their packed itinerary.

Twilight Tours

Swim Win -Twice as Nice

Byron Kimber (Carramar, Year 11 student) dominated the Rottnest Channel Swim on Saturday. Byron and his teammate, Tim Hewitt were the first duo team to cross the finish line, completing the race in just over four hours while battling very choppy conditions! Congratulations Byron – we’re glad you made it to shore before the great white shark was spotted!

A High School Highlight

Year 12 students dazzled in their stunning suits and gowns recently, to celebrate one of the highlights on the school calendar – the School Ball. Carramar students graced stunning Fraser’s, in the tranquil surrounds of Kings Park, dancing the night away in a special occasion to remember.

Multi University Presentation

Tuesday 2 February our Year 12 students were visited by representatives of WA’s major Universities – Murdoch, ECU, UWA, Curtin and Notre Dame. The morning was a great success as students heard from each institution about admission, new offerings and alternate entry pathways. This left the students plenty to consider as they embark on their final year at school!

Making a Splash for Mental Health

St Stephen’s School has well and truly made its mark in The Big Splash WA, a public art initiative aimed at raising awareness of child and adolescent mental health. Duncraig Teaching Artist Claire Davenhall has two dolphins featuring in the exhibition; ‘InterAqua Dolphin’ can be found at Stirling Gardens on St George’s Terrace, while ‘IceBreaker Dolphin’ is currently outside His Majesty’s Theatre. Meanwhile, Year 12 Visual Art students and their teacher, Verity Palmer created the St Stephen’s dolphin Finlay, aiming to spread the message ‘how to be a good friend when riding those waves of emotions.’ Ms Davenhall’s dolphins are on display until Wednesday 4 March, while you can meet Finlay with 44 other school dolphins on Saturday,17 March.

Gone Fishing

Our Year 9 Outdoor Ed class started their fishing unit last week. While their catches were too small to keep, they did have some success with their first session at Hillarys Marina.

2018 Swimming Carnival

There was healthy rivalry between the houses at Carramar’s Swimming Carnival this week. The PARRESIA PRIDE shone through yet again as the polar bears of Parresia took to the water like…..polar bears to water, taking out the title. Followed by Charis and Makaria respectively.
