Cover Page
The purpose of the cover page is to contain an overview of the course. It should be an easy reference for information about the entire year of work.
It contains a copy (or a link) to the assessment schedule, program and syllabus.
Assessments
o The assessment schedule should be developed at the start of the year. Lower school students are to have the entire semester of assessments visible to parents and students. Year 11 and 12 are to have the entire year’s assessments visible
o Assessment titles should include the weighting and clear labels that are succinct.
o Task sheet/assessment description and marking guide/rubric are to be added at an appropriate time.
o Marks for summative assessments should be made visible, within three weeks of the assessment being finalised.
o If there is more than one class, all marks are to be made visible at the same time.
o Exam marks are to be released at the end of the exam period.
o Formative assessments can be visible with a weighting of zero.
o Assessment feedback will be placed in the Marks Book on a regular basis.
(Lesson) Planning
Students, parents/carers and other staff should be able to see what has been planned on a week-by-week basis (as a minimum). Clarity in lesson naming is essential.
Lesson Resources
It should be clear where students can access resources and links. Students may be required to enter homework themselves on occasion.
Documents Section
This is used to store documents that parents/carers might need to access at any point of the year.
Documents include anything from a Parent Information Night slide show, Curriculum Handbooks, and the Assessment Policy.

Lego Land
Lego Teaching Life Skills
Teamwork, problem-solving, creativity and collaboration – just a few of the positive skills our involvement in the First Lego League is teaching our students. As our teams gear up for the First Lego League this Saturday, our Carramar Secondary team, better known as the “Brik Pak”, are working on a system that uses drones to locate mosquito breeding grounds and eradicating them through the aerial dropping of eco-friendly pesticide pellets. Known as M.A.C.E (Mosquito Aerial Control and Eradication) our team has been in contact with Murdoch University for some information regarding the sorts of programs and issues with mosquito control as it is such a big public health issue and the remote nature of some of their breeding grounds.

Well done to all the students who contributed to the inspiring showcase of art media, design and technology in the 2017 Fusion Design and Technology Exhibition. Local artist, Sam Bloor judged the Secondary School awards and was impressed with the high calibre of work. Congratulations to the award winners!

The Carramar Secondary Presentation Evening will be held on Monday 4 December commencing at 6:45pm in the Sports and Learning Centre.

From the Head of Secondary
We are very excited to inform you about some changes that are underway in our Mathematics Department. Traditionally in schools, it has been extremely difficult for one teacher to cater to the learning needs of 20 individual students. As a result, not every student has experienced success in mathematics, with many students finding it particularly stressful or difficult. Our teaching team is now working very hard to change that, by changing the structure of our Mathematics curriculum so that instead of all students learning the same topic at the same time, each student will focus on only what they are ready to learn. This means that every student can experience success in Mathematics.
Our Mathematics team will be sending home further communication to parents about these changes and we will be holding an information session later in the term. In the meantime, we encourage you to chat with your child about about what it means to have a growth mindset (you can find out more about this at https://www.mindsetkit.org/growth-mindset-parents).

Road Safety Reminder
Parking and overall traffic congestion around schools is an ongoing issue and is further exacerbated with vehicles parking in contradiction to parking signs, on footpaths or in dangerous locations such as on bends at intersections. So to minimise this issue below are a few suggestions to ease stress during these periods:
- Organise with your child to meet in a pre-arranged location away from the busier areas after school.
- Tell your child/ren that you will arrive a little bit later after the final bell and advise them to wait within the school grounds until you get there.
- Use the Kiss and Drive if there is one at the school and ensure you use it appropriately. This means if your child is not there, drive around until you see your child waiting.
- Park further away and walk to meet your child.
