SCHOOL SLEEP OUT

School students will swap their school bags for sleeping bags later this year for the annual Anglicare School Sleep Out. Although St Stephen’s isn’t part of the Anglican Schools Commission, Anglicare were impressed by our commitment to giving back through our Service Learning arm that they extended the invitation for our community to experience sleeping rough for one night to see how the more than 9000 West Australians who are homeless live. If you’re interested in forming or joining a St Stephen’s School team, go to www.anglicarewaschoolsleepout.org.au. Our School team page is at: https://anglicarewaschoolsleepout.org.au/teamststephens

TRY-A-TRADE

Last week’s Try-A-Trade was messy but fun as Year 9 and 10 students from Carramar and Duncraig tried their hand at plastering. It took a few goes to perfect the trowelling technique before they took to the walls. There was lots of laughter at the realisation that it’s “harder than it looks” but the students took it in their stride; the lecturer impressed with “a few standouts” and the teens’ polite nature “even early in the morning”.

LEADING BY EXAMPLE

We’re seeing some young coaches in the making at the Carramar campus, with Year 11 Cert 2 students recently coaching Year 2 students in AFL! Not only was the experience valuable for the Year 2 students, our Year 11 students were able to put their footy knowledge into practice and grow as leaders.

IMPRESSIVE START

Our Senior students have had a cracking start to their Basketball season with a couple of wins already under their belt. Wishing the Girls and Boys teams the best of luck for the rest of their season!

WORK EXPERIENCE WANTED

St Stephen’s School prides itself on the practical learning opportunities given to our students, regularly working with the wider community to assign work experience placements that help both our students and those hosting them.
Some of our students have shown interest in the below industries;
Tiling, Plumbing, Property Valuation, Media, Electrical, Kitchen/Bathroom Renovations and more.
Our Vocational Education and Careers Departments are putting the call out to our alumni and parent communities to see if word of mouth really works!
Let us know if you, or someone you may know, could be interested in hosting some work experience students. Email cathy.trethowen@ststephens.wa.edu.au.

REST AND REFLECT

Our Year 12 students recently travelled to New Norcia for their Year 12 Retreat! Students spent time resting and reflecting, as well as taking part in team building activities for their last ever school retreat.

BALANCING ACT

of this year’s Carramar Elite Athlete Program met up recently, bonding over their love of sport and sharing in their experience of the juggle between training for elite sport while studying. The Elite Athlete Program helps students to balance the demands with flexible timetables, revised assessment deadlines, support and individualised programs to help them succeed.

Wishing our EAP members all the best for the year ahead – we can’t wait to see what you achieve. The Duncraig EAP meet is coming up soon.
