Summer Lovin’

There were two words on everyone’s lips this week…….

Greased Lightning!

Over 100 students across both campuses auditioned to be a part of next year’s musical, Grease! Our Drama teachers have been blown away by the sheer talent of our students. This will undoubtedly make for a slick production in 2018.

LEGO League Robotics Club

With our success in the 2017 LEGO League Robotics challenge, we are now looking for LEGO Robotic designers, builders and engineers for the 2018 International LEGO league challenge to again be held at St Stephen’s School next year.

The club will most likely run once a week after school and/or at lunchtime.

The club is open to anyone in Years 7 to 9.

Please fill in your details on the sign-up board outside Mr Drake’s office in CHARIS.

Let’s go LEGO let’s go!

Coding Connection

Digital literacy, especially coding, is one of the top areas of knowledge and skills required by our students as they move on into industry, University, TAFE and other pathways.

In Years 7 and 8 our computer students are currently looking at coding via Scratch and Google CS-First as well as starting to look at simple HTML in some of their projects.

In Years 9 to 12 students electing to study Computer Science look at coding with Visual Basic, Python and online learning tools like “Grok Learning”.

Recently, a number of students have approached me for ways in which they can expand their coding knowledge or have access to our resources as they currently don’t do Computer Science.

In response to this request I have put together a list of FREE resources where students and even parents, can access free coding tutorials, many offering a Certificate at the end of the online course.

Please follow the “coding connections” below and feel free to contact me if you have any questions.

Kind Regards

NAPLAN Results

Individual NAPLAN reports and the explanatory brochure were distributed to students vis Homeroom on Thursday 24 August. While the test represents a single snapshot on a specific day, it does provide useful information about both the group of students and about individual students.

The explanatory brochure is useful and further information can be accessed here: https://www.nap.edu.au/docs/default-source/default-document-library/naplan-2017-information-brochure-for-parents-and-carers.pdf?sfvrsn=2.
