High Achievement in Sport – Daniel Vlahov

St Stephen’s Carramar student, Daniel Vlahov set to debut for Wolves…

The Joondalup Wolves will debut a St Stephen’s School student with a famous basketball name when the side faces East Perth in the State Basketball League on Saturday 17 June.

At 16, Daniel Vlahov, who is a relative of Perth wildcats great Andrew Vlahov, will be one of the youngest debutants in recent seasons. Daniel impressed coaching staff who invited the shooting guard to train with the senior squad at the end of last year.

Joondalup coach, Ben Ettridge said the St Stephen’s School student, who has been with the Wanneroo Basketball Association since childhood, had made the most of his opportunities in pre-season training and practise. “As a lightening quick, sharp shooting point guard, we gave him the appropriate time and opportunity to focus on his under 18 WA state commitments this year.” Daniel’s Division 1 performance under Coach Doug Gates have culminated in his promotion to the senior squad.

Wolves chief executive, Cameron Britt said Vlahov’s achievement to “break into this star-studded Wolves line-up at 16 years of age, speaks volumes for both his ability and his attitude”.

Daniel will also represent WA in the 2017 under 18’s Basketball team, competing in the Canberra National Championships, 11 – 18 August.
