THE HEIGHTS OF HIGH SCHOOL

These may be the most excited students on campus right now – our Year 7s! Year 7 students were welcomed at their orientation day yesterday, before starting their first high school classes today. We wish them all the best for the year ahead.

Tough Mudders

Carramar Year 7 students recently enjoyed an awesome day of team building activities at the Swan Valley Adventure Centre. Fun was high on the agenda, as well as challenges requiring students to work together to develop their problem solving and communication skills. There is nothing quite like getting out of the classroom for a day of fun with classmates!

Make Your Own Storybook

Congratulations to 8 of our Year 7 Humanities Enrichment students who entered the Make Your Own Storybook Competition run by The Children’s Book Council. Over the last 8 weeks the students have learnt how to construct sophisticated picture books targeted to older students and have produced their own exceptional stories.

The books will be on display in the library later in the year when they return from judging.

Please congratulate Abbie McCrum, Blake Fletcher, Mia Marcuccilli, Abigail Legge, Nicholas Tully, Montana Madsen, Aaron Popich and Falgun Batavia.

Year 9 Junior Boys AFL

With the last round of the qualifying stages being played this Thursday the Junior Boys Football team have had some mixed results.  We started off our first round game with a great come from behind win against Joseph Banks only to lose the next four games at home.  Facing Wanneroo Secondary College’s second side, the team was looking for a stronger performance after a poor showing against Irene McCormack the week before.  The first minute set the tone of the game with a strong forward entry and a couple of near misses before finally scoring a goal.  The remainder of the game was a one way street with the final score of 10.14 – 74 to 0 a reflection of our dominance across the ground.

This week sees our last game on Thursday against Butler away.  Many thanks to all of the parents who have come down and supported the boys through out the competition.

UCW Winter Appeal – update

Thank you to the students and their families for the generous donations that will help members of both our local community and the inner city regions.

Each of the three Year 7 homerooms have worked together to collect items suitable for the Winter Appeal. In the table below is a sample of the sorts of donations that are required.

Year 7 service to the community

Carramar Year 7’s had the opportunity to further support the work of the Salvation Army this week, with three groups of students volunteering to collect money as part of the Red Shield Appeal at Balcatta Bunnings.

Each group spent one and half hours in store, and collectively achieved over $650 over the three days!

The school is proud that this has come about from students own desire to support the Salvation Army, and builds upon the education and awareness work the year group has been doing in partnership with the Salvation Army this year.

Year 7 Excursion

On Tuesday May 16 Carramar Year 7’s enjoyed beautiful weather as they spent the day in Perth City learning from Salvation Army staff as part of our ongoing efforts in the Community Serve partnership.

Working in groups, students were able to visit three key sites: Doorways, Bridge House and Beacon House. Each facility has a different purpose but all play a role in supporting people who face severe challenges in the city area and in in alleviating issues associated with homelessness. Students are gaining a deeper understanding of the complex issues surrounding homelessness and learning more about appropriate and thoughtful responses to these challenges.

Year 7’s are to be commended on their open minds, inquiring questions and softening attitudes as they personally wrestle with these issues. It is a pleasure to see them grow in this way.

As a result of this visit we have had some eager students ask for more opportunities to work alongside the Salvation Army and other social justice partnerships/projects that the school has.
