Mark Fielding has received a scholarship to further his professional development and enhance the education sector. Dr Fielding, Director of Global Programs at St Stephen’s School, was awarded one of six national $5000 scholarships by NGS Super. The awards help teachers, support and management staff of non government schools to pursue their professional goals and make an impact on the wider education sector. Dr Fielding was awarded the scholarship to further enhance St Stephen’s School’s partnership with two indigenous schools – Yiyili and Purnululu Aboriginal Schools – as part of its commitment to building education opportunities and reconciliation in the East Kimberly region. “Our goal was to establish permanent and meaningful partnerships with Yiyili and Purnululu Schools that were mutually beneficial to all involved,” Dr Fielding said.

This week, residents at Regents Garden Residential Care Home were treated to a special Christmas Carol performance from Carramar students. The Primary Vocal Ensemble joined their Secondary peers in song as part of the St Stephen’s Service Learning Program. What a great opportunity to spread Christmas cheer while serving the wider community!
Carramar Senior Drama students ventured into Perth’s cultural hub last week. They explored the Heath Ledger Exhibition: Life in Pictures at the Art Gallery of WA followed by a viewing of Mr Robot by the Barking Gecko Theatre Company. After the show, the group were lucky enough to have a private question and answer session with the show’s director Matt Edgerton and the cast and crew. What a coup!
Our first St Stephen’s Global service tour to India departed Saturday 18 November. A group of 13 Year 12 students from Duncraig and Carramar will be working in and around Woodstock School, located at 2300m above sea level, in the foothills of the Indian Himalayas in Uttarakhand State. The group have been working hard over the last six months. They have prepared for their service by learning basic Hindi and studying Indian history, culture, people and issues of the region. They will also have an opportunity to visit Delhi and the Taj Mahal. We wish them all the best for the trip and we’re sure there will be many enriching stories to tell upon their return.
Carramar Year 10 student, Harman Heer has been named as the winner of Best Photographic Series in the Mesh at Murdoch Awards for 2017. Harman entered an inspiring series of wildlife images taken on a trip to Africa – his ultimate goal to become a National Geographic photographer. Head of The Arts at Carramar Mrs Lesley Nation said Harman was the first person she thought of when the competition application came across her desk. “I knew he had an impressive body of work and he is such an exceptional talent and a lovely, humble young man – what an exciting win for him and for the School.” Best of luck to Harman for the overall Gold Mesh Award announcement in December.
With our success in the 2017 LEGO League Robotics challenge, we are now looking for LEGO Robotic designers, builders and engineers for the 2018 International LEGO league challenge to again be held at St Stephen’s School next year.
The club will most likely run once a week after school and/or at lunchtime.
The club is open to anyone in Years 7 to 9.
