As 2020 is slowly coming to a close we would like to ask all parents and students to search their homes to see if there are any library books/resources that need to be returned or renewed before the end of the year.
We would also like to remind all students that they are most welcome to come and borrow for the holidays. Our new return date will be the first week back at school, 1 February 2021.

The hardest part of the school holidays can be finding something for the kids to do. Ward off the constant ‘I’m bored!’ declarations and make screen time more productive at Fire Tech’s STEM workshops this January.
Kids can brush up on their tech talents at a range of workshops including Junior Adventures in Augmented Reality, Creating for YouTube, Making Games with ROBLOX, Video Game Design, Lego Stop-Motion Animation and Digital Music.
There are courses to suit children aged between 9-17 and the cost rivals that of vacation care, all while the kids walk away with a new skill.

Our Year 9 Rite Journey students took part in a challenge camp at The Kaadadjan Centre last week. A major part of the camp was spending 24 hours on a solo reflecting on life and the type of person they aspire to be. Students have been preparing for the solo throughout this year. They also went on a 16km hike along the Murray River which involved a river crossing, they challenged themselves on a high ropes course and involved themselves in team work activities in Laserscape. The classes participated as class groups and the Rite Journey program will culminate in a Project Exhibition and Homecoming Ceremony next Tuesday 24/11.
Duncraig campus hosted a special thank you event for WA Charity Direct recently which saw recipients of funding, students, staff and WACD trustee Damien Eves celebrate the work done to benefit the lives of those in need. Students presented guests with an overview of recipients’ histories and why they were chosen to benefit from WACD funding. This year’s event included acknowledging recipients of funding in 2019 (due to the cancellation of their event earlier in the year due to COVID-19 restrictions).
The annual Potato Olympics competition saw potatoes flung, rolled and bowled – all in the name of maths on campus recently. Pure spud power was used by Year 7 students to collect data and determine which potato athlete would fry the competition.
On Monday 26th and Tuesday 27th of October Thomas McIntyre of Year 9 and seven other Year 8 and 9 students volunteered to take part in the Western Australian Junior Mathematics Olympiad run by the University of Western Australia. This competition was carried out at 30 schools across Western Australia and involved students staying behind after school to carry out a 100 minute individual test followed by a 45 minute test as a team of four the following day. While all students should be commended for their efforts, Thomas performed exceptionally well and achieved a High Distinction and was invited to the awards ceremony at UWA to receive his certificate as well as a prize for his results. Congratulations Thomas for your amazing efforts and may your love of mathematics continue.
