Year 7 HASS Speed Notetaking

March 31, 2017

Good note-taking and effective reading are among the most basic skills for students.

Taking notes serves one simple purpose: to help you remember information.

Here are Mrs Cunninghame’s Year 7 HASS class doing speed notetaking while others read.

South African Service Tour 2017

March 19, 2017

The South Africa Service Tour departs on the 28th of March – we ask for your prayers as our students and staff endeavour to complete some fantastic work in disadvantaged communities.

On Saturday our students raised $1454 at a Joondalup Bunnings sausage sizzle – we are really proud of their efforts.

This combines with the $750 that each student has raised as part of their tour commitment.

Our aim is to build a laundry facility at Jehova Jireh Haven out of a reconstructed shipping container.

Much of the structural work has already been completed in South Africa and our students will add the finishing touches such as painting the outside, plumbing the washing machines, paving the outside and setting up washing lines.

The Haven has previously hand washed the laundry for over 140 children. The container laundry facility will hopefully be a massive blessing to their lives.

The students are also building a giant jungle gym that will cater for the children at the haven – we will certainly post pictures of their efforts. If last year’s netball courts are anything to go by then we aim to surprise everyone with a giant jungle gym set up.

Rite Journey Ceremony

February 24, 2017

The Rite Journey provides unique educational programs designed to support the development of self-aware, vital, responsible, respectful & resilient adults.

By raising young people’s consciousness about transitioning from child to adult and having conversations with them about what really matters we can assist in guiding their journey into adulthood.

The year-long program uses a Rite of Passage framework to deepen the students’ experience of this important life transition.

A few words of thanks from Mr Dale Kelly:

Thank you for your wonderful efforts this morning and during the heat of the hike.

We had many parents commenting on how much they enjoyed being at Sorrento.

The students had a great time today and I think it was a wonderful opportunity for them to bond and to feel a sense of accomplishment.

I must make a special mention to Nicola Kirby who on the strength of this morning’s efforts could easily start a buffet breakfast bar – YOU ARE AN ABSOLUTE STAR!!!!!!

You know that your efforts today were above and beyond what is expected and for that I thank you.

Cambodia Service Tour – 2017 Funds

November 29, 2016

In early 2017, our students head off on the Cambodia Service Learning Tour. The Duncraig students raised a fantastic total of funds to donate, all because they were so well supported at school and believed they could.

Thank you to our school community for buying chocolates, sausage sizzles, attending quiz afternoons, randomly giving students donations and all the wonderful things that you have done to support these students on their life-changing adventure.

Bethany Tour

October 21, 2016

Each year, St Stephen’s sends students to visit Bethany Home, which is a school for people with disabilities in Malaysia. This year we managed to send two tours, one in July and one in October.

Only a small group of 10 SSS students get selected to go on each tour and while visiting Bethany, they help support the students and staff in any way they can. The Bethany Home tour has been a highlight of so many students’ time at St Stephen’s and the recent October tour was no exception.

It’s difficult to summarise what it feels like to visit such a beautiful place like Bethany Home. I know the lives of the students who visited will be touched forevermore from this experience.

The French Tour 2016, students spent the first two weeks in Draguinan in the south of France with host families and, then, a final week in Paris. Everyone got a chance to develop their French Language skills during their homestays. As part of our tour, the group visited Lorgues market, Abby du Thornet, Monaco, Eze, St Tropez and Sainte Maxim for day tours. Experiencing the finest provincial weather and culture. In Paris the group was able to experience all of the major sites to taste the history and culture of the capital and its surrounds! It was a great experience for all involved from both Duncraig and Carrmar.
