WARM WELCOME

May 30, 2019

Moving up to Secondary can be a bit daunting for some but the Year 7-10 Mentoring Program helps to welcome the newest recruits into the fold. Year 10 students recently spent time playing games with some of the Year 7s, helping to bridge the gap from Primary to Secondary, with Celebrity Heads, UNO and Two Truths and Lie offering lots of laughs. The groups meet twice a term to provide the younger students with a familiar and friendly face before they transition into their Houses in Year 8.

The Year 2s were delighted to listen and share the knowledge they have learned in their own Biblical Studies class.

Year 10 Biblical Studies

May 20, 2019

In Year 10 Biblical Studies, students spend 12 weeks completing an overview of the Bible learning how the 66 books of the bible all point to Jesus Christ. A central part of this course has the students creating their own children’s picture book of the Bible. To celebrate the successful completion of their storybooks the Year 10s visited the Year 2s at the Early Learning Centre and read their books aloud to a small group of students. The Year 2s were delighted share their own knowledge about Jesus from the Bible Mr Stephens has been reading to them. It was a wonderful time for all involved.

Dancing the Day away!

May 8, 2019

Year 10 History students participated in the Charleston Dance lesson earlier in the term.  Yr 10 History covers Australia from the end of WW up to the Civil Rights movement.  It is important that students actively engage in Australian history and enjoyed learning a dance from the 1920s.  It is always impressive to see how much effort out students put into activities and the joy they receive from engaging in these activities.

CREATIVE EXPEDITION

March 18, 2019

Year 10 students recently took an enlightening excursion to Fremantle to explore the world of children’s literature and illustration. The trip included a workshop with children’s book author and illustrator Briony Stewart at Paper Bird Children’s Books and Arts, and a meeting with illustrator James Foley (author/illustrator) who comically demonstrated the process of illustrating a children’s book.

After leaving Fremantle inspired, students are now designing a promotional poster to celebrate Book Week as part of their Commercial Design class.
