Year 12 Marketing Expo #2

As a part of the Certificate IV in Business, teams of year 12 students recently participated in a Marketing Expo hosted in Carana House Forum. This Expo required students to identify an existing product, and then remarket it with a range of marketing strategies such as new branding and product features, and a variety of promotional tools and pricing structures. Expo visitors, which included students, teachers, parents and members of St Stephen’s Executive, were able to question each of the student teams about their marketing ideas and provide them with feedback. Students will use this feedback to write a “report to management” about the success of their marketing efforts as one of the final tasks they complete in the Certificate course.

MODERN SCIENCE

Year 12 ATAR Biology students recently visited UWA to discover the application of nanotechnology in modern day science and to investigate forensic anthropology. Students learned about how to make cancer self-destruct by inserting Nano gold into cancer cells and how fossils can be used to confirm the age, gender and race of people. Wow!

ARTISTIC FLAIR

Work by Portia Smulders, Year 12, has been selected to be featured in the META 2019 Art and Design Exhibition! Featuring work from Year 11 and 12 students throughout WA, the Exhibition kicks off at North Metropolitan TAFE today and runs until August 24. Be sure to check it out!

TALENT ON SHOW

Three of our senior students have been selected to feature their artwork in the prestigious 2019 St George’s Art Exhibition. Be sure to visit St George’s Cathedral to see their stunning work on display before the exhibition closes on Sunday!

Congratulations to:
Will Boutle Year 11
Tascha Cox Year 11
Olivia Roberts Year 12

SKILLS IN PRACTICE

Congratulations to Abigail Kemp, Year 12, for placing third in Hospitality Group Training WA‘s 2019 Taste of the Future Competition! Competing in a Masterchef-style competition alongside six other students from around Perth, Abi displayed her culinary skills as she highlighted shark as the key ingredient.

GLOWING RESULTS

Teaming up across our campuses, Year 12 ATAR Biology students from Carramar and Duncraig recently worked to make transgenic organisms. Taking the GFP gene from jellyfish and inserting it into bacterium, results show that when the gene is expressed it glows! Students then participated in a debate discussing the ethics behind genetically modified organisms and the future impact the science will have on society.
