A small group of St Stephen’s School students and staff joined Hon. Albert Jacob JP, City of Joondalup Mayor for the 2018 Mayoral Prayer Breakfast last week. Guests heard a Keynote Address from The Salvation Army’s Captain Scott Norman and were inspired to become ambassadors of change in our local community.

Year 11 students once again enjoyed a thought provoking visit from Mr Ephraim Kaye. Mr Kaye is the Director of International Seminars at the International School for Holocaust Studies at Yad Vashem.
Yad Vashem is the national authority in Israel for the remembrance and Yr 11 Students were privileged to have such an estimated expert at our school to enhance their knowledge of the Holocaust. Students were shown a presentation that encapsulated the idea that people were Upstanders, Bystanders or Perpetrators during the Holocaust. It was interesting to watch the students pull these ideas apart and realise the vigilance needed in today’s society to be an upstanding citizen.
Once again, we were very grateful to have Mr Kaye visit us from Israel and appreciate his time and expertise.

The 2019 India Leavers Tour provides an opportunity for current Year 11 students, graduating in 2019, to round out their service learning experiences at St Stephen’s School. Running from 23 November – 6 December 2019, students will volunteer at Woodstock School, trek the foothills of the Himalayas and explore India’s rich culture.
We invite our current Year 11 students and their families to an India Tour Information Evening.

The Australian Nuclear Science and Technology Organisation (ANSTO) will host 22 lucky Year 10 students.
With encouragement from their teacher, Shannon Fletcher, Year 10 students Laura de Silva-Beiter and Charlotte Beale submitted a 40-second video to apply for the Australian Nuclear Science and Technology Organisation competition, revealing two plans they devised to combat global issues. They have been invited to take part in a Big Ideas Forum in Sydney.

The 2018 St Stephen’s School Fete was a feast for the senses as the bustling crowds enjoyed the sound of students singing, children running around with glitter in their hair, the smell of South African sausages sizzling away and the bright colours of cake, plant and craft stalls. All of this just as they arrived, with visitors presented with more than 90 attractions spotted around the beautifully-decorated grounds.
There was something to please everyone on the day, which was a resounding success, drawing big crowds who were able to see what St Stephen’s School is about.
I wandered around filled with pride seeing our core value of Community being lived and loved by all.
The day’s success comes down to the work of many. First of all, the commitment of our Fete Parent Committee. Your love for the school and dedication to bringing this event to life is truly astounding. I know how hard you all worked, the extra hours you put in and the energy it took to create such a wonderful day for all. Your support and devotion is rewarding for our whole community.
To our staff members who worked alongside the committee to make sure all went to plan, I thank you for your loyalty to our vision of being a Christ-centred, student-focused and community-based school.
Then there are the stallholders, community members, visitors, students, volunteers and more! I can’t even start to thank each person by name as there would be too many to list and I wouldn’t want to miss any deserved praise but we really enjoyed having all of you there on the day and couldn’t have enjoyed the success without your help.
As we reflect on another wonderful community event as we head toward the end of the year, it is a great time to reflect on living by our values of Faith, Service, Learning, Care and Community.

THIS year’s Remembrance Day marks the centenary of Armistice – when the First World War came to an end on November 11, 1918.
The City of Joondalup has been working with local artists and school students to commemorate this significant historical occasion.
Artists Daniela Dlugocz, Denise Brown and Paula Hart recently held a series of workshops with students from local schools to produce a series of canvases that depict themes from World War 1 and Remembrance Day including the iconic poppy fields.
The schools involved were Warwick Senior High and St Stephen’s Schools, Kinross College and Craigie Heights, Bambara and St Luke’s Catholic primary schools.
Students and parents are invited to attend the ceremony on 11 November where there will be a free sausage sizzle for all attendees after the service.
