NEW SKILLS

February 27, 2020

Year 10 students from Carramar and Duncraig got to work at Bunnings Whitfords this week ahead of an exciting adventure! Students set to travel on the South Africa Service Tour learnt some handy skills in preparation for the trip, where they will help with building projects at JJ Haven Orphanage.

TOUR READY

March 20, 2019

Before jetting off to South Africa for the Service Tour in a few weeks, Year 10 students from Carramar and Duncraig stopped by Bunnings Joondalup to sharpen their DIY skills! Students were trained in using power tools, painting, gluing and sealing, making concrete, laying bricks and rendering. These skills will help students when they take part in building projects at JJ Haven Orphanage.

Bunnings Training Day Success!

March 17, 2018

Well done to everyone for completing the Bunnings Day Training Session! Remember how to use the tools and skills you learned because they’ll come in handy when we are in South Africa.

  • Power drill (wood and masonry)
  • Torque wrench (screws, nuts and bolts)
  • Saws (jigsaw and hand saw)
  • Painting (rolling and brushing around trim)
  • Liquid Nails
  • Paving (measuring, levelling, cutting and laying)
  • Bricklaying (making ‘mud’ to keep bricks together and pavers from shifting)

A special ‘Thank you’ goes to Belinda and her team of professionals at the Joondalup Bunnings for hosting this very important training session. Not only did they provide you with the necessary skills and safety training you need while we’re on tour, but they also donated a lot of sports equipment for the children we will be visiting in South Africa.

Sausage Sizzle

Our students cooked up delicious sausages at Bunnings Joondalup last week to help raise money for Bethany Home.

Students will donate the funds when they visit Malaysia in July.

South African Service Tour 2017

March 19, 2017

The South Africa Service Tour departs on the 28th of March – we ask for your prayers as our students and staff endeavour to complete some fantastic work in disadvantaged communities.

On Saturday our students raised $1454 at a Joondalup Bunnings sausage sizzle – we are really proud of their efforts.

This combines with the $750 that each student has raised as part of their tour commitment.

Our aim is to build a laundry facility at Jehova Jireh Haven out of a reconstructed shipping container.

Much of the structural work has already been completed in South Africa and our students will add the finishing touches such as painting the outside, plumbing the washing machines, paving the outside and setting up washing lines.

The Haven has previously hand washed the laundry for over 140 children. The container laundry facility will hopefully be a massive blessing to their lives.

The students are also building a giant jungle gym that will cater for the children at the haven – we will certainly post pictures of their efforts. If last year’s netball courts are anything to go by then we aim to surprise everyone with a giant jungle gym set up.

Bunnings Workshop

March 17, 2017

Everyone had a fantastic day today learning about the different types of tools and the safety when using these tools.

Student’s learnt quite a bit and these skills will certainly serve them well in their work at JJ Haven.

Our sincere thanks to Bunnings for their ongoing support of our South Africa Service Tour.

They continue to bless us with this free building workshop topped off with a lovely morning tea, a filling lunch and a great pair of working gloves and safety glasses.

There support is most valued!
