Year 11 River Cruise

September 22, 2020

Dear Year 11 Students, Parents and Guardians

Last night we had a fantastic evening aboard the MV James Stirling for the annual Year 11 River Cruise. Students and staff came dressed to the theme of TV Shows and Movies and there were some amazing ensembles. Most notably: Jethro Mack the Oompa Loompa from Charlie and the Chocolate Factory, Seb Oats as The Joker and the incredibly well-attired Star Wars cast. There was also Total Drama Island, the Power Puff Girls, Mario and Luigi, the Mumma Mia Trio, Pirates of the Caribbean and Marty from Back to the Future.

The crew of the MV James Stirling wish to pass on their sincere appreciation to our students for their outstanding behaviour both throughout the cruise and especially at the end of the evening when our students cleaned up their own tables. They also commented on how impressed they were with the costumes and the way our students interacted with one another. The community spirit of St Stephen’s School, the way we care for one another, was shining brightly last night. You were excellent ambassadors for our school.

Thank you to Dr Criddle, Mr Gaby, Mr Knight, Mr Jakeway, Miss Ross, Miss Ntoumenopoulos and Mr Herewini for supervising. Special thank you to Mrs Aldous for being our Chief Photographer and Mrs Kirby for being our Medic for the evening. Thank you also to Tara Eshragi, Georgia La Motte, Emma Hutson and your band of helpers for coming early to decorate the decks

Congratulations, Year 11s on an awesome evening!

STARS OF THE SILVER SCREEN

August 29, 2019

Year 11s dressed to the nines as stars of the Silver Screen for their River Cruise recently. The night was a great success filled with dancing, laughter and making memories. Deciding the winners of the costume competition proved difficult with some very imaginative gets-ups including Winnie the Pooh, Top Gun, 101 Dalmatians, Prank Patrol and The Jokers. It was a tie for first place with Adam Fletcher (Halo) and Rylan Cunnane (Elton John) taking out the $100 gift voucher.

Year 11 River Cruise

August 27, 2018

The Year 11 River Cruise was a resounding success. 131 students boarded the MV Captain Cook in a spectacular array of fashion from decades past. Special thanks go to members of staff, Bronwyn Schultz, Stef Ntoumenopoulos, Greg Hatfield, Brendan Selby, Howie Jakeway, Jen Prosser, Bennet Andrews and Tracey Gray who joined us in fancy dress for the evening. Thank you also to the Year 11 student volunteers who helped with the planning of the evening, packed the lolly bags, transported the snacks and water to the boat on the night and decorated the boat: Ally, Charis, Dani, Ella, Gemma, Holly, Ruby, Shannon and Sophie.

We were impressed by the effort that went into the costumes, the spirit of community and fun, as well as the maturity and respect shown on the night.  Everyone had a fantastic time.

Prizes were awarded and special mention must go to Jason for coming as Al Capone complete with the scar on his face and a mob of nearly a dozen men. Tamzen came as ‘Rosie the Riveter’ from the American World War II wartime poster. Tamzen and Jason took out the top prizes receiving a $50 Westfield Shopping Gift Card each. Other individuals who won prizes included Michael dressed as Dennis Lillee, Sam as John Travolta from Pulp Fiction, Elisha as a 90s boy band member, Micah as a 1970s surfer, Cambell as a Go Go Girl and Tom as Russell Coight. There were so many groups of students that looked amazing it was very difficult for the judges (teachers) to make a decision. In the end, prizes went to the 1980s Aerobics Girls (Mikayla, Kayla, Alicia, Holly and Juliette) who went all the way in their lycra and leg warmers to even crimping their hair. Sophie, Abi B and Faye were great as 1950s girls and Stacey, Tegan, Sascha, Abi C and Dakota won a prize for coming dressed as 1920s Flappers. Other groups that caught the judges’ eyes but didn’t win prizes were the boys in purple, the Spice Girls (two groups – both incredible), the nuns, the hippies and Jesus and his disciples. Photos will be posted on the school’s Facebook page, Secondary Newsletter and other publications very soon.
