School Calendar
To stay well-informed about the latest updates and important events at the school, please regularly check the School Calendar. Additionally, remember to review the newsletter and other communications.

Parking at the ELC
Please do not park by the bins near the Kindy and Pre-Primary play areas. This area is out of bounds for parking. Parking here makes it difficult for others entering the ELC, especially when reversing from this space.

Health, Social-Emotional, and Protective Behaviours
Throughout the year, students will have lessons on health, social-emotional skills, and protective behaviours. Teachers will keep you informed about class activities through the class blog. Please ensure you stay up to date with this information as we work together to support our students and keep them safe. Attached is a document related to protective behaviours and conversations with your child.

School Disco
A huge thank you to all the wonderful parents who helped with the school disco. It was a fantastic event that the students truly enjoyed. A special thanks to Mel Sheeve for her outstanding organisation and planning. This event would not have been possible without parent support. We deeply appreciate your time, care, and hard work.

Co Curricular Clubs

We are excited to begin the Primary Co-Curricular Activities this Term. These activities are a wonderful opportunity for students to learn new things, develop positive social skills and enjoy being a part of the broader St Stephen’s School community. The activities will commence in Week 3 and will run for a 6-week period, finishing in Week 8.

Your child/children are welcome to participate in a co-curricular activity at the Primary School.  It is important that children understand that they must commit to the activity for the whole 6 weeks. Bookings will open Monday 29 July at 6pm and can be made through the following Bookwhen link.  Places are limited for each activity so please only enrol in one activity.  Allocation is on a ‘first in’ basis, so please secure your child’s place as soon as possible.

Warm regards

Term 3 – Notices – Week 1

Welcome back to the start of Term 3. It is hard to believe that we are halfway through the year already.

As ever, we are excited about what lies ahead and pray for another smooth year.

The week ahead:

Monday 29 July, 2:30pm – Assembly (6F)

NAIDOC Activity Day

During the school holidays, the nation celebrated NAIDOC.  As we were not at school, on Tuesday 23 July, the ELC students will have a special event taking place and can come to school wearing a splash of NAIDOC colour – red, yellow or black.  This can be in the form of socks, hair ties, a top or wrist band etc.  Year 3-6 students will be honouring NAIDOC with activities in their own classrooms and are also encouraged to wear a splash of NAIDOC colour.

Uniforms

Can we please ask that you refresh your understanding of the uniform guide to ensure that your children come to school with the correct uniform. We noticed some instances where it was not followed towards the end of last term but we would like to start this term in the right way.

Please also note that if your child grows out of their sports jacket in Year 6, we do allow them to purchase the secondary sports jacket. However, if the jacket is in short supply, the uniform shop will prioritise the secondary students.

Wearing the secondary sports jacket only applies to Year 6. Children in all other year groups must wear the primary sports jacket.

Keeping Safe: Child Protection Curriculum

Over the course of this term, the students across the ELC and Primary will be learning about protective behaviours through the Keeping Safe: Child Protection Curriculum (KS:CPC). Protective behaviours is a compulsory part of the curriculum and this program is regarded as one of the best ways of delivering this sensitive topic by schools both nationally and internationally.

The KS:CPC is an evidence-based child safety and respectful relationships curriculum. It was developed collaboratively with child protection experts, teachers, educational leaders and other professionals, and has international recognition.

The KS:CPC is divided into 5 documents specific to the age and year level of students, starting from age 3 and progressing to age 17+.

The KS:CPC is predicated on two main themes which are presented through topics and activities of increasing complexity. The two KS:CPC Themes are:

·         Theme 1: We all have the right to be safe

·         Theme 2: We can help ourselves to be safe by talking to people we trust.

The two KS:CPC Themes are explored through four Focus Areas, which are examined in growing complexity in accordance with the age of the students. The Focus Areas are:

·         Focus Area 1: The right to be safe

·         Focus Area 2: Relationships

·         Focus Area 3: Recognising and reporting abuse

·         Focus Area 4: Protective strategies

The activities are structured in a sequential nature and at an age and developmentally appropriate level covering a range of topics.

It is also important to note that any teacher who delivers this program must be trained and I am pleased to say that all classroom teachers and specialists who deliver this program have been trained and we have two members of staff in the primary school who are qualified as trainers.

Over the course of the term, we will use this blog as a way of providing you with bits of information to keep you informed and hopefully alleviate any concerns you may have.  We will also provide you with any suggestions of how to tackle any questions or discussions should your child continue to talk about it at home. This will include the language used so all conversations can remain consistent.

Warm regards

Andrew Johnston & Hannah Lockwood-Jones

If you choose to stay and play at the ELC after school, we kindly remind you to supervise your children at all times while on school grounds. At the ELC, we have playground expectations that include being kind to others, not running with sticks, not throwing stones or mulch, and generally maintaining and caring for our play spaces. We kindly ask for your support in ensuring these expectations are upheld during playtimes after school.

Please ensure that all families leave the premises by 3:40pm, as the OSH program uses the outside space after this time. If your children would like a longer playtime, please use the oval and playground, which have no time restrictions.

Thank you for your cooperation and understanding.

Enrolling Siblings

This is a gentle reminder that if you have an older child at the school and would like their siblings to attend as well, please remember to enrol them as soon as possible. We currently have waiting lists across many of our year levels.

Before and After School Playground Use

Parents and Carers are responsible for the supervision and care of their children when using playground equipment before and after school hours. This policy follows several instances where children have been injured while using the playground outside of school hours at both the Early Learning Centre (ELC) and for students at 3-6.

ELC: Students should not be left unaccompanied at any time before classroom doors open at 8:35am due to their young age. They must be supervised by their parent or another adult.
3-6: Students should not be dropped off at school before 8:10am.
By adhering to these guidelines, we can ensure the safety and well-being of all students. Thank you for your support.

Consent to Go:

Please ensure that your contact details are up to date in case we need to reach you during the school day. Additionally, remind your children to practice good hygiene by washing their hands regularly and staying home if they feel unwell. If your child has any medication conditions or needs, please ensure that this information is update on Consent to Go for the school to access.

HEART FOR THE HOMELESS

There’s a definite chill in the air, isn’t there? When you’re snuggling down in bed, spare a thought for the more than 9700 West Australians experiencing homelessness every night. You can make a difference by contributing to the Sonshine 98five “Heart for the Homeless” campaign which runs from 6 – 24 May. We’re pleased to be accepting donations at administration buildings on both campuses. Between 8am and 4pm Monday to Friday. You can drop off new and clean sleeping bags, fleece blankets, warm clothing and hygiene products. Thank you for helping in whatever way you can.

The collection box is located in the Main Administration Building.

We’re collecting new and clean:

Sleeping bags, tracksuit pants and tops, backpacks, shampoos, conditioners, body wash, soap, deodorant, tampons and pads, underwear, single-pack toothbrushes, toothpaste, razors and socks.

We’re only accepting brand new and in good condition clean items. We are not collecting food or perishable items at this time.

Essential Donation Items:

·         New Sleeping Bags: A warm and cozy sleeping bag can provide much-needed comfort during cold nights.

·         New Fleece Blankets: Soft fleece blankets offer warmth and a sense of security to individuals facing homelessness – small, packable ones are best as they’re easy to carry.

·         New Underwear:
