ELC before and after school play

If you choose to stay and play at the ELC after school, we kindly remind you to supervise your children at all times while on school grounds. At the ELC, we have playground expectations that include being kind to others, not running with sticks, not throwing stones or mulch, and generally maintaining and caring for our play spaces. We kindly ask for your support in ensuring these expectations are upheld during playtimes after school.

Please ensure that all families leave the premises by 3:40pm, as the OSH program uses the outside space after this time. If your children would like a longer playtime, please use the oval and playground, which have no time restrictions.

Thank you for your cooperation and understanding.

Enrolling Siblings

This is a gentle reminder that if you have an older child at the school and would like their siblings to attend as well, please remember to enrol them as soon as possible. We currently have waiting lists across many of our year levels.

Before and After School Playground Use

Parents and Carers are responsible for the supervision and care of their children when using playground equipment before and after school hours. This policy follows several instances where children have been injured while using the playground outside of school hours at both the Early Learning Centre (ELC) and for students at 3-6.

ELC: Students should not be left unaccompanied at any time before classroom doors open at 8:35am due to their young age. They must be supervised by their parent or another adult.
3-6: Students should not be dropped off at school before 8:10am.
By adhering to these guidelines, we can ensure the safety and well-being of all students. Thank you for your support.

Consent to Go:

Please ensure that your contact details are up to date in case we need to reach you during the school day. Additionally, remind your children to practice good hygiene by washing their hands regularly and staying home if they feel unwell. If your child has any medication conditions or needs, please ensure that this information is update on Consent to Go for the school to access.

Dear Community,

We hope this newsletter finds you well as we dive into the fourth week of Term 2. It has been an eventful time at our school, filled with exciting activities and accomplishments from our students.

Cross Country Success:

We are thrilled to announce the success of our recent Cross Country events, which saw enthusiastic participation from students across Years 3 to 6 and our younger students at the Early Learning Centre. It was wonderful to witness the determination and sportsmanship displayed by all participants. Congratulations to every student who took part, and a special mention to those who helped organise and run these events.

Mother’s and Special People Day Celebrations:

As Mother’s Day approaches, we are eagerly preparing to celebrate and honour the incredible mothers and important people in our students’ lives. At our school, we recognise that in a family there are many special people who play significant roles in our students’ lives. Whether it’s grandparents, aunts, uncles, or family friends, we want to take this opportunity to acknowledge and celebrate the contributions of all these special individuals.

Co curricular clubs

We are excited to kick off the Co-Curricular Activities this week!  These activities are a wonderful opportunity for students to learn new things, develop positive social skills and enjoy being a part of the broader St Stephen’s School community.

Following last week’s issues with the booking system, a thorough review is being conducted with some adjustments being made ready for Term 3. Places have now been allocated for Term 2, based on the time of your first booking.  Notifications regarding club placements have been sent out via email, confirming your child’s enrolment or placement on the waitlist.

All confirmed Club bookings are for the full 6-week duration, and we encourage consistent attendance to maximise the benefit for all participants. Your child’s active involvement will greatly contribute to the success of the club.

We still have a few spots available in the following clubs for Primary students (Years 3-6). If you haven’t already received confirmation for a Club, please click here to make a booking: Bookwhen

Hockey (Years 3-6)
Wellbeing (Years 3-6)

Warm regards,

Hannah Lockwood-Jones & Andrew Johnston

Co Curricular Clubs

We are excited to begin the Primary Co-Curricular Activities this Term.  These activities are a wonderful opportunity for students to learn new things, develop positive social skills and enjoy being a part of the broader St Stephen’s School community.  The activities will commence next week and will run for a 6-week period, finishing in Week 9.

Your child/children from Years 3-6, are welcome to participate in a co-curricular activity at the Primary School.  It is important that children understand that they must commit to the activity for the whole 6 weeks.  Bookings for term 2 will open Monday 29 April at 4pm and can be made through the following Bookwhen link https://bookwhen.com/ststephensschool_duncraig#focus=ev-s3mu-20240507131500.  Places are limited for each activity so please only enrol in one activity.  Allocation is on a ‘first in’ basis, so please secure your child’s place as soon as possible.

Cross-Country

This Friday, we will be running both our ELC and 3-6 cross country events. This is always a wonderful occasion and one where we are able to celebrate the efforts and achievement of all students. As well as celebrating those talented and passionate runners, we are equally proud of those who find this kind of event more difficult yet have the resilience and determination to take part, which is usually recognised by the other students who roar them on as loudly as the winners.

We look forward to seeing all the students there and hope you too are able to come along as well.

Warm regards,

Andrew Johnston & Hannah Lockwood-Jones

Celebrating a Guinness World Record and an Exciting Start Term 2!

Dear St Stephen School Families,

What an incredible start to the new term we’ve had! Our students have truly embraced the spirit of learning and community, diving into the term with enthusiasm and energy. The highlight, undoubtedly, was witnessing our whole school community come together to achieve a Guinness World Record! This remarkable accomplishment not only reflects our collective spirit but also sets a phenomenal tone for the year ahead as we celebrate 40 years.

As we continue to build on this momentum, I want to acknowledge the role each of you plays in supporting our learning environment. Your engagement and encouragement make all the difference, and it was evident this past week. From some of you participating in our record-setting event, ensure you child is ready for events and to supporting your children in their daily academic and extracurricular endeavours, your involvement is key to their success.

Looking ahead, we have many exciting activities and learning opportunities planned for our students. We remain committed to not only maintaining but enhancing the vibrant, nurturing, and challenging educational experience at St Stephen’s School. Please mark your calendars for our upcoming events. Some of these events will provide a wonderful opportunity for you to meet our dedicated staff and connect with other families.

Thank you once again for your continued support and enthusiasm. Let’s keep the momentum going and make this school year one of the most memorable yet!

Kind regards,

Hannah Lockwood Jones & Andrew Johnston

Primary Cross Country – Friday 3 May

On Friday 3 May(week 3), we will have our Inter House Cross Country which will be held on school grounds. From the Inter House competition, the top 6 boys and top 6 girls will be selected for our Inter School team who will compete at Mawson Park, Hillarys on Friday 21 June.

I have attached maps below for our Inter House. Year 3s run 1500m, Year 4s run 2000m and year 5 and 6 both run 2500m.

I strongly urge students hoping to do well to start planning and preparing for the competition. Cross Country is a sport where careful and consistent preparation can make a significant difference. Cross Country is also a sport where hard work and determination bring obvious results. With the time frame that we have now before competition, I would recommend students are running their distance, plus some, about three times a week. I would use google maps with Parental input to determine a suitable course in the neighbourhood and I would record the time taken to run the distance for each practice session. Recording the times will give motivation to push harder. Another very useful training program would be to get involved in the Saturday morning Parkrun held at 8am. IT IS FREE TO JOIN. Probably the closest to our school would be at Carine Open Space – home | Carine Glades parkrun | Carine Glades parkrun. I know there are already a number of very fit St Stephens Family’s involved at Carine each week. Other Parkruns close by include at Whitfords Nodes and Joondalup.

On Friday 26 June(week 2), all students will be walked/jogged through their course.

Students will also be able to participate in training sessions at school. Training sessions will be held on Tuesdays and Fridays in term 2(incl. first day back). Tuesday sessions will begin at 7:45am sharp on Hamer Oval and finish at approximately 8:15am. Friday sessions will be held at 1:05pm and lunch can be eaten after the session ends. If students do not have PE on that day then they may need a change of clothes or shoes.

I look forward to watching students enjoy success from hard work.

Easter Experience

A reminder of our first Pillar Day on Wednesday – The Easter Experience. Children will be working in their houses, so are encouraged to wear their house shirt (PE shirt) on the day.

This year, in Years 3-6, we have selected a day in each term where we will take time to focus on one of the pillars of the school. The core values that underpin the school and it’s community. These pillars are; Faith, Learning, Care, Service, Community. Our first Pillar Day will be on Wednesday 27 March where we will focus on our first pillar, Faith. On this day, the students will take part in an Easter experience, a day where the students will learn about the Easter story in an immersive and hands on way. This will culminate in an assembly at 2.30, where we will focus on the resurrection of Jesus. If you would like to come along to the assembly to see what the children have learned in the day, we would love to see you there.

Looking ahead to the beginning of Term 2.

Tuesday 16 April – students return to school, Term 2

Friday 19 April – SSS 40th Anniversary, Guinness World Record Attempt

Dear Parents,

As we approach the conclusion of Term 1, we find ourselves on the cusp of Easter, a time of renewal, hope, and joyous gatherings. This season offers a wonderful opportunity to reflect on the growth and progress our students have made, and it reminds us of the importance of community and support in nurturing their journey.

The last few weeks have been filled with learning, challenges, and achievements. Your children have shown remarkable resilience, curiosity, and creativity, traits that are celebrated and cultivated within our school community. As they take a well-deserved break, we hope this Easter period provides a moment for rest, reflection, and celebration with loved ones and friends.

Easter symbolises new beginnings and the promise of brighter days ahead. As we look forward to the rest of the year, we are filled with optimism for the continued growth and success of our students. Your ongoing support and involvement are invaluable to us, and we are grateful to be in partnership with you.

May this Easter bring you and your family peace, happiness, and a sense of renewal. Enjoy the break, cherish the moments spent with family, and we look forward to welcoming our students back, refreshed and ready for the exciting challenges of Term 2.

Happy Easter to you and your loved ones!

“For God so loved the world that He gave His only begotten Son, that whoever believes in Him should not perish but have everlasting life.”
John 3:16.

Warmest wishes,

Hannah Lockwood-Jones & Andrew Johnston

Probably the closest to our school would be at Carine Open Space – https://www.parkrun.com.au/carineglades/ . Items to mention

Kindy Pickup

To support the flow of traffic during the busyness of pick-up time for Kindy, we kindly ask that if there is not a spot available to park in the parking lot (that is not designated for staff), that you please continue to pass through and as an alternate, park at Fern-wood oval. This will assist in avoiding the traffic within the carpark to be a standstill and to be held up. We appreciate your anticipated support.

School Worship Service

We wish to remind you of the St Stephen’s School Worship Service; a night for giving thanks, will be held at the Carramar Sports and Learning Centre on Tuesday, 26 March starting at 6:45pm.  This year the focus is on Faithfulness in the context of the School’s 40th Anniversary. We would love to see you all there.

3-6 Pillar Day

This year, in Years 3-6, we have selected a day in each term where we will take time to focus on one of the pillars of the school. The core values that underpin the school and it’s community. These pillars are; Faith, Learning, Care, Service, Community. Our first Pillar Day will be on Wednesday 27 March where we will focus on our first pillar, Faith. On this day, the students will take part in an Easter experience, a day where the students will learn about the Easter story in an immersive and hands on way.
