Science Rocks!

Our Year 8 students recently participated in an incursion from Australia Earth Science Education. They were learning about different types of rocks, the rock cycle and the importance of tackling climate change. The students were then able to have a go at identifying and classifying various rocks.

Service Learning for 7C2

Some of Mr. Osborne’s 7C2 Homeroom students visited the SALVO’S on Tuesday, 3rd August for Service Learning. They helped unpack and sort donations, tidy items within the shop and assisted in the canteen for those in need. It was a fantastic opportunity for Year 7’s to interact with and learn more about the needs of people within the community.

WRITE A BOOK IN A DAY

Two teams, iPads, art supplies, laptops and heaps of creativity – the perfect plot to Write a Book in a Day! Year 7-11 Gifted and Talented students spent yesterday devising story ideas, characters and all-important plot twists to create chapter books during the Write a Book in a Day event. Each team had to include certain elements in their story as well as random words – including pineapple, blue bottle and family – to add to the challenge. Year 11s mentored the teams across the day, supporting and encouraging teammates to complete the project. Digital editions of the finished book will be shared with hospitals across Australia and funds raised during the project will support The Kids’ Cancer Project. Community members can donate on behalf of St Stephen’s School via this link https://loom.ly/LS1LabQ or https://loom.ly/9sC1LKU

NAIDOC WEEK – HEAL COUNTRY

St Stephen’s School Duncraig and Carramar students concluded NAIDOC week celebrations with a special assembly last week. Aboriginal Elder Maitland Hill performed a wonderful Welcome to Country and spoke to the theme of NAIDOC Week 2021, Heal Country.
Heal Country calls for stronger measures to recognise, protect, and maintain all aspects of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander culture and heritage. It calls for all of us to continue to seek greater protections for our lands, our waters, our sacred sites, and our cultural heritage from exploitation, desecration, and destruction.
