Boys’ Hockey Challenge- Perth Hockey Stadium- 13th June

In their first game, they drew with Ursula Frayne 1-1. In their second game they comprehensively beat Mandurah CC 4-0 which meant they topped Pool B.

In the semi-final, they lost to eventual finalists Corpus Christi 2-0.

In their last game (a 3rd/4th place playoff) they drew 0-0 with Ursula Frayne.

The team itself comprised players who play hockey competitively as well as a few students who were new to the game. An honourable mention should go to Ewan Matthews who performed heroics in goal despite never having played there before and despite the ‘keeper’s kit being about three sizes too big for him. He was full of enthusiasm and his infectiousness rubbed off on the other players. In a lovely surprise, James Gishubl (Class of 2021) came down to watch and helped coach some of the younger players… without being asked to do so. He plays for Raiders and is a very accomplished hockey player himself. Special mention also to Jhett Kemp who was captain on the day. He helped organise the team, gave excellent team talks at half-time and between games.

The competition was won (comfortably) by Mazenod who beat Corpus Christi in the final.

My thanks to all the players who behaved immaculately and to the few parents who were able to come along and watch. My thanks also to Jaime for organising this and allowing these students to play hockey for the day. They sincerely appreciated the opportunity.

Camp Cooking

Below are photos of Ms Plummer’s first trangia cooking lesson.

There was pasta, burgers, s’mores, and nachos but the stand out was an apple crumble from scratch – even peeled the apples on site.
