Harmony Day in Carana

Carana students participated in activities during Homeroom for Harmony Day. Each homeroom had a life sized cut out of a person that was filled with outlines of each of their hands. Inside the hands they coloured the flag of the country representing their backgrounds. The house captains cooked up pancakes and had them on sale to raise funds for an orphanage in South Africa.

RHINOCEROS SIGHTING!

Year 11 and 12 Drama students will bring Eugene Ionesco’s Rhinoceros to the stage next month! Presented over three acts, the play serves as both a commentary and warning against social conformity or “herd mentality” and the rise of Fascism in WWII. We are looking forward to performances set to give audiences laughs, empathy and plenty of head scratching. https://loom.ly/GpYApz4

Nipper State Championship

We wanted to share with the school the achievements of Beau (Duncraig) and Mitchell (Carramar) at the State Surf Life Saving Nipper Carnival with the boys picking up a silver medal in the sprint relay.

This only 8 weeks since Mitchell’s broke his arm in the flags at the Country Carnival.

Congratulations boys!

TIMAE TRIUMPH

Congratulations to Timae, winning the Secondary Interhouse Swimming Carnival at Challenge Stadium. Swimmers took to the water with great enthusiasm throughout the day, with cheer squads keeping team spirits high from the stands. Timae claimed top spot with a total of 2056 points, followed by Carana (1838) and Alethea (1279).

ACC ALL STARS

Congratulations to three students who were awarded ACC All Stars Awards at a recent assembly for their outstanding efforts in 2020 interschool sports competitions. Year 12 Ellie Parsons and Year 8 Max McCullough were acknowledged for Athletics, and Year 12 Nick Holmes was awarded for Cross Country.

Waterwise Incursion (Year Seven)

St Stephen’s is another step closer to being a water wise school.  Year sevens participated in the Water Corporation ‘Waterwise Schools Program’ which is a multi-sensory experience for students.  The purpose of the program is for students to receive education in conservation and sustainability of the water in WA.

Students discovered that gardens and bathrooms use most of the household water. Students also discovered that a 4 min or less shower uses 4 buckets of  water and a shower at over 10 min uses 10 buckets of water.  It is estimated a bucket of water is used per minute in the shower.  Waterwise suggests shorter showers and hand water your garden to reduce evaporation. These are two easy ways to save water.

Year 12 Deadlines

Parents of 12 students are reminded that the last date for applications for Special Provisions for the 2021 ATAR examinations is Thursday 1 April 2021. Any subject changes should have already occurred. Year 12 students are required to sit ATAR course examinations. Where the course has both written and practical examinations, students are required to sit for both of these examinations. Students who do not sit an ATAR course examination and do not have an approved sickness/misadventure application for that course, will not have the units contribute to the calculation of the Western Australian Certificate of Education (WACE).

This information has been discussed with students in Education Plus classes. Further information from SCSA is available in the Year 12 Information Handbook:https://www.scsa.wa.edu.au/publications/year-12-information.
