Commencing Monday 6 August and concluding week 6, Friday 24 August St Stephen’s School will be running a Food Appeal for Uniting Care West. The School is asking all students to donate at least one non-perishable food item.
Examples of non-perishable food items such as:
canned soups and vegetables
pasta and pasta sauces
tinned meats eg. tuna
biscuits
UHT milk
cereals
bread mixes
instant noodles
All donated goods will go to Uniting Care West.
St Stephen’s School Carramar Home Economics students put the old adage of learning with purpose into practice last term, drawing on their sewing skills to help those less fortunate.
Spurred on by the words of Mission Australia WA Chaplain Scott Vawser, who took time to speak to the students about the impact of drugs, alcohol and homelessness on Perth’s youth, the Year 11 and 12 students created care packages for Mission Australia’s Drug and Alcohol Youth Service (DAYS), which provides a comprehensive range of treatment and support services to youth battling drug and alcohol issues. During the recent July holiday break a group of 19 Year 9 students and 3 staff from Carramar had the opportunity to participate in a 7 day educational tour to Sydney and Canberra. It certainly was a busy schedule and they managed to visit a host of special places which included the old Parliament and current Parliament Houses, Questacon, the National Capital Exhibition, the High Court, the National Gallery, the National War Memorial and the Australian Institute of Sport, as well as the Perisher ski-fields, where the students very much enjoyed the snow. They absorbed a considerable amount of Australia’s history, culture, heritage and democracy, with education and fun going hand in hand as it should.
We would like to take the opportunity to thank the Australian Government, who through their support of the Parliament and Civics Education Rebate (PACER), helped make the trip to the national capital more affordable through this funding process.
Special thanks to Mr Langley, Mrs Cross and Ms Percy for working with the awesome students who participated in this successful tour.
