SLOW DOWN

June 28, 2019

City of Joondalup Councillor John Logan visited the Duncraig Campus this week. While he was here he dropped off a bunch of the ‘Slow Down’ bin stickers for our St Stephen’s families. Feel free to grab one from your school reception area and place on the right side of your red bin to display the reminder to Slow Down and Consider Our Kids each week.

June 28, 2019

With two hard-fought CAS Grand Finals taking place at our campus yesterday afternoon, both our teams were able to take out the top spot! Congratulations to the Year 8 Girls Netball team and the Year 7 Boys Basketball team who were undefeated all season. Well done to all our students, coaches and umpires on a fantastic CAS season.

NUT AWARENESS

June 26, 2019

St Stephen’s School takes student safety seriously.  As our school has a number of students with  food allergies, we have adopted a ‘Nut Aware School’ policy.

To support this, we encourage parents to avoid sending foods that contain nuts to school. This includes peanut pastenut spreads such as Nutella and fruit and nut bars.

We acknowledge that due to food processing practices it is impractical to eliminate nuts or nut products entirely from an environment where there is food.  Many food packaging labels include the phrase ‘may contain traces of nuts’.  These foods are acceptable.  Thank you for your understanding and support of our school policies.

ECO FRIENDLY

June 26, 2019

Eager to make a difference in the local community, T1 Homeroom recently rolled up their sleeves to clean up the sand dunes at Hillarys. Participating in Keep Australia Beautiful WA‘s Adopt-a-Spot program, students ‘adopted’ an area in their local community they frequently visit to keep it clean. The group also visited the Department of Fisheries to learn about how plastics enter the ecosystem and the consequences faced by the fish in our coastal region.

GLOWING RESULTS

June 25, 2019

Teaming up across our campuses, Year 12 ATAR Biology students from Carramar and Duncraig recently worked to make transgenic organisms. Taking the GFP gene from jellyfish and inserting it into bacterium, results show that when the gene is expressed it glows! Students then participated in a debate discussing the ethics behind genetically modified organisms and the future impact the science will have on society.

NOW YOU SEE IT, NOW YOU DON’T

June 25, 2019

Year 12 student Thomas Garnett is known for, and proud of, his luscious locks but that’s all about to change. Thomas is making the big move to shave his head in the last week of term to raise money for the charity No Limits Perth. True to Thomas’ caring and friendly nature, the Alethea Captain selflessly put himself forward to lose his prized mane in order to help others through No Limits, which helps members of the community in crisis – restoring love, faith and hope with one random act of kindness at a time. Thomas would appreciate any help in raising funds for those less fortunate. Find out more here:https://www.gofundme.com/f/tom-shaves-his-head-for-no-limit…
