Ready for an action-packed competition, secondary students were keen to participate in the SunSmart School Surfing Titles on Tuesday. Tackling tricky conditions the boys put up a great fight, with two teams making it to the Semi Finals before unfortunately being knocked out.

Numero Challenge
August 17, 2020This year, our school entered our first Secondary Interschool Numero Challenge. Numero is a mathematics card game that involves mental arithmetic and fun! Our school entered 16 people with a total of four teams from Years 7-10. Some of these students had played Numero before but for many of them, they had only played Numero for 4 weeks or even less! The North Heats were held at St Stephen’s School, Carramar and our students had a lot of fun. There were individual and team challenges, some of which our teams placed in the top three for these events.
One of our teams placed 4th in the North Heats and were invited to attend the Grand Final the following week. The team consisting of: Josh Craig, Alyssa Hardingham, Ben Lyon and Thomas McIntyre were very excited to be competing in the Grand Final for their first ever Numero competition! We were up against schools from the north and south heats and some of these schools had won the Numero competition numerous times. Our students competed very well and finished in 8th place out of twelve schools.
FINALLY…

The Show Must Go Online
August 12, 2020THE SHOW MUST GO ONLINE
With the Theatre closed amid the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic, our Performing Arts teams had to rethink the way they would teach, rehearse and deliver a production this year.
Our original plans were postponed but as they say, the Show Must Go On…line! The performance was taken off the stage and into student’s homes with the brand new and quirky online musical, specially written by Beat by Beat Press during the pandemic and closures of schools and venues.
The Show Must Go Online is the first of its kind – a musical to be rehearsed, remotely, performed virtually and shared with audiences online.
The storyline includes a series of solo monologues and songs that, when recorded and played in sequence, present a musical theatre experience online.
It is a bit like life imitating art, with the plot centred around a group of students who are desperately trying to save their annual production and their Drama Department by turning their show “Brushes with Greatness: A Dental Hygiene Musical”, into a virtual production.

ENTERTAINMENT EXPERTS
August 12, 2020Drama students have been lucky to learn from some acting experts keen to pass on their expertise in a range of incursions. Year 11 and 12 students enjoyed a workshop with actor and WAAPA lecturer Caitlin Beresford-Ord, thanks to the Black Swan State Theatre Company, while the Year 7s visited the weird and wonderful world of entertainment at an incursion with Zap Circus.
PRIZED PARTNERSHIP
August 11, 2020STEM is here to stay and St Stephen’s School is focused on equipping the next generation with these important skills, among others. Our partnership with leading education service provider Fire Tech Australia, who focus on digital technologies and engineering, has seen interest in these areas flourish. As the company’s exclusive northern suburbs host, students from various schools come together each holidays for a series of workshops to explore the world of opportunities.
Last holidays our campuses were a hub of activity where students practiced robotics, artificial intelligence, game design and coding. See more about the partnership in this video.
Dates for the next round of holiday workshops will be announced soon.
