NORTHERN EXPOSURE

October 14, 2019

St Stephen’s Global will be launching the 2020 Lou Morrison Kimberley Tour for current Year 8s and 9s in the next few weeks. This is an extraordinary opportunity for our students to spend time with indigenous students in our partner schools – Yiyili and Purnululu Aboriginal Schools in the East Kimberley. Students will learn about Australian indigenous culture in rarely-accessed traditional lands. The group will also have the opportunity to experience some of the amazing beauty of the rugged Kimberley region as they travel from Broome to Kununurra. The tour will run in July 2020.

Parents and students will be invited at attend Information Evenings at both campuses in late October and expressions of interest will close soon after. Email mark.fielding@ststephens.wa.edu.au to register your interest now.

COMMUNITY CAMPOUT

September 26, 2019

Although the evening temperature dropped below zero, the sun was shining and smiles were all around as more than 200 people enjoyed the inaugural Community Campout at The Kaadadjan Centre over the weekend. Families enjoyed quality time playing games, using the sports equipment, cooking damper over the fire, making their own Aboriginal-inspired artwork and mining for choc chips with Alcoa. There were lots of laughs around the campfires and the children enjoyed an outdoor movie under the stars. What a wonderful time!

The Kaadadjan Centre will soon open for private bookings for our families, staff and alumni. Keep and eye out for more information.

SKILLS ON SHOW

September 23, 2019

Our VET students have been doing us proud in recent weeks, showcasing their skills among industry professionals.
Year 12 Amelia Hodder has been attending a girls only Electrical Pre-Apprenticeship class for her External VET. The class was recently presented with a WA Training Award for Female Participation in the Electrical Industry, with lots of interest from employers at the event.
The annual Hospitality Group Training Showcase also saw school-based apprentice Year 12 Abi Kemp join full-time apprentice chefs to produce a five-course fine dining meal for 300 people. Executive Chef for the night was alumni Zac Tholen.
So great to see St Stephen’s students making their mark.

St Stephen’s School Lakeside Joondalup Community Food Cart Run

September 19, 2019

We are seeking interested families to participate in the School’s new community service. Once a week we visit the cafes at Lakeside Joondalup to collect their leftover produce at the conclusion of trade. This food is then collected by UnitingCare West Merriwa and distributed to families and schools in the northern suburbs that are currently experiencing hardship.

We share the roster along with our Carramar Primary and Secondary teachers and students, Rotary-our cart sponsors, and UnitingCare West. Your commitment is totally up to you; once a month, twice a month or even once every three months, whatever you wish. The run commences at 4.45pm and concludes at 5.30pm.

If you are interested in participating as a family or even with friends, please contact me on 0429 153 912 or email me volunteers@ststephens.wa.edu.au
