RISE Service Learning for T1

April 2, 2019

T1 went to RISE to work with young people and adults with disabilities.  There were many activities to enjoy like painting portraits, working with clay and wood work.  Our students also enjoyed working alongside the people at RISE and getting to know them and support the staff.  Some of us learnt how to knit, and spent time in the textiles room where there was lots of laughter and chatting.  Other students from T1 supported RISE and the staff by sweep the bricked area in the garden and re arranging the flower pots making it a tranquil and quiet place to sit and enjoy being in nature. After a wonderful time, the T1 students who attended this community service expressed how much fun it was and that the time they spent at RISE was time well spent.  We are thankful for the opportunity to support people with disabilities.

FROM THE ARCHIVES

March 29, 2019

It’s hard to believe that our School was once a small collection of buildings surrounded by lots of sand! Throughout this year, we’ll bring you highlights from the archives as we celebrate 35 years of quality education. Take a look back and experience the excitement and anticipation of the very first day at St Stephen’s School.

WORK EXPERIENCE WANTED

March 28, 2019

St Stephen’s School prides itself on the practical learning opportunities given to our students, regularly working with the wider community to assign work experience placements that help both our students and those hosting them.
Some of our students have shown interest in the below industries;
Tiling, Plumbing, Property Valuation, Media, Electrical, Kitchen/Bathroom Renovations and more.
Our Vocational Education and Careers Departments are putting the call out to our alumni and parent communities to see if word of mouth really works!
Let us know if you, or someone you may know, could be interested in hosting some work experience students.

DANJOO- INTERWOVEN

March 21, 2019

Year 11 students joined Artist in Residence Rohin Kickett, a Noongar artist from the Ballardong region for a 2 hour workshop at Midland Junction Arts Centre on Wednesday 20th March 2019. Rohin’s artworks are inspired by his family stories of strength and survival, along with his own personal experiences growing up in Perth. Born within 50km of where his family first made contact with settlers, his connection to the Ballardong region runs deep within his family.

Students were asked to considered their own identity and connection to place, they produced abstract representational paintings inspired by the Rohin’s working techniques and processes seen in his studio.

TOUR READY

March 20, 2019

Before jetting off to South Africa for the Service Tour in a few weeks, Year 10 students from Carramar and Duncraig stopped by Bunnings Joondalup to sharpen their DIY skills! Students were trained in using power tools, painting, gluing and sealing, making concrete, laying bricks and rendering. These skills will help students when they take part in building projects at JJ Haven Orphanage.

Following a successful pilot program in 2017, St Stephen’s School was lucky enough to participate in WA Charity Direct‘s School Program again in 2018.
