The Arts Award Assembly took place today.
It was a wonderful array of Debating, Drama, Music, Art, and Singing.
Principal Donella Beare along with ex-student Alex Morris presented the many awards. Alex is a graduate of the University of Western Australia having completed a Bachelor of Music majoring in Composition in 2009. During primary and secondary school at St Stephen’s, Alex studied music and had an active involvement in all available vocal ensembles and the string ensembles on the violin.
It was an opportunity to acknowledge ex-student Amy Reid who had her work ‘Girl in a Manhole’ displayed in the Art Gallery of WA where she won the Exhibition Medallion of 2016.
Parents were invited for morning tea afterwards.

Year 12 students – Collection of Mock Examinations
We wish our Year 12 cohort the very best for their written Mock WACE Examinations, which commence on Wednesday next week. While our ATAR students are sitting their Semester Two examinations, our General and VET students may also be attending school in order to finish work up until Grad’s Day.
Please click the link below to the program for the return of Mock Examination results to students. Each ATAR subject has been given a time slot in the first week of next term, from the 10-13 October. Students should attend school in their sport uniform, and bring appropriate stationery to take notes.
Note that the 2018 academic year commences on Tuesday 10 October for students entering Year 8, 9 and 10 in 2018. The 2018 academic year commences on Monday 16 October for students entering Year 11 and 12, 2018. This is the final year of the academic rollover.
My best wishes to all our students for a rewarding final few weeks of term.

Year 12 (2017) Return Mock WACE Workshops
About 75 mathematics students from Year 12 attended a ‘masterclass’ on the Computer Algebra System (CAS) calculator Thursday. This was presented by national Casio ClassPad 330 expert Charlie Watson.
Charlie’s sessions included trigonometry, functions, probability, sequences and graphing. He looked at basic skills and past exam paper questions and how to simplify them by using the classpad.
The students found it extremely useful and were impressed at Charlie’s presentation skills.
This presentation was organised by Jennifer Prosser, Acting HOLA Mathematics.

A group of Year 11s lead by Mr Lickfold went on a abseiling adventure in Bickley today in perfect conditions.
This activity is part of their certificate in outdoor education.
Abseiling is the mastering of all surfaces and the incredibly useful skill of using a rope to get down vertical drops. Practiced on everything from mountains and bridges and even out of helicopters, abseiling lets you descend from great heights at a pace that suits you.
Students in Year 7, 8, 9, and 11 will be receiving their subject confirmation for the five term 2018 academic year in Homeroom this week.
Students in Year 10 have already received this information.
Information on Booklist requirements will be emailed to families on Friday 1 September.
Please contact Mrs Stout in the Library if you have any questions about the Booklist.
If you know someone who wants to start university in 2018 and achieved an ATAR of 80.00 or above, they may be eligible for the Murdoch First Scholarship worth $2,000. And if they accomplished an ATAR of 90.00 or higher, they may be awarded with a $3,000 scholarship.
All they have to do is choose a Murdoch undergraduate course as their first preference through TISC and enrol full-time in Semester 1, 2018. Be sure that they get their preferences into TISC by 11pm on Friday 29 September to avoid a late application fee.
