Over 100 students across both campuses auditioned to be a part of next year’s musical, Grease. Our Drama teachers have been blown away by the sheer talent of our students, which will make for a slick production.

Research shows that what you eat and how you eat matters. It matters a lot. So this month I’m focusing on foods that can help us to think, feel and live better.
The problem is our modern environment sets us up to make poor food choices. Fast food is engineered to be cheap and tasty (but low in nutrients).
Like drinking smoothies for breakfast? Then consider adding a handful of blueberries or a tablespoon of cocoa powder into your next one. The research is in: foods rich in flavonoids are fantastic for your brain and cognition. You can read more about the power of flavonoid-rich foods here.

Learning Fundamentals
We were honoured to receive an invitation to perform at the Glengarry Private Hospital 40th Anniversary Celebration.
Students from the Year 11 and Year 12 Music ATAR classes provided music for this special occasion in the newly landscaped courtyard garden. After a speech from the hospital CEO, Mila Snyman (Year 12) performed Romberg’s Sonata in E minor opus 38 on ‘cello, accompanied by Mrs Jamison, which was very well received by the audience.
The students led the guests in an enthusiastic rendition of “Happy Birthday” as the enormous hospital birthday cake was cut!
Our Year 11 and Year 12 students, Mr Bourgault and Mrs Jamison then provided background music for the rest of the morning while the guests enjoyed morning tea. The musicians performed in small groups and as soloists – a woodwind trio, ‘cello duet, ‘cello and violin duet, trombone trio, clarinet solo and ‘cello solo – displaying a diverse array of instruments and a wide variety of music.
The hospital staff were very appreciative of our students’ contribution to the atmosphere of the morning. Our music students are wonderful ambassadors for St Stephen’s School and it is such a pleasure to watch them excel on their instruments.

The Arts Award Assembly took place today.
It was a wonderful array of Debating, Drama, Music, Art, and Singing.
Principal Donella Beare along with ex-student Alex Morris presented the many awards. Alex is a graduate of the University of Western Australia having completed a Bachelor of Music majoring in Composition in 2009. During primary and secondary school at St Stephen’s, Alex studied music and had an active involvement in all available vocal ensembles and the string ensembles on the violin.
It was an opportunity to acknowledge ex-student Amy Reid who had her work ‘Girl in a Manhole’ displayed in the Art Gallery of WA where she won the Exhibition Medallion of 2016.
Parents were invited for morning tea afterwards.

On behalf of the Year 12 ATAR Music and Drama students, we would like to formally invite you to the culmination of their creative process over this past year. As you may know, these students have been preparing tirelessly for their practical exam, with this performance being vitally important to this creative process. Performing to an audience for the first time gives these students an opportunity to showcase their work and to gain vital feedback from family and friends.
The evening is this Monday the 28th August at 7pm.

Balinese dance is dynamic, angular and intensely expressive. Eling Nusantara develop and combine the traditional dance, new creation dance and modern dance.
This performance is not suitable for children under 5 years.
