ACC Swimming – Inter-School Competition

April 30, 2018

Dear Parents of Swimmers competing in the Inter-School Competition

At the ACC Council of Principals meeting on the 5th April , we were presented with some background and history on the time frame of the ACC A Division Swimming Carnival. The carnival was originally held on a Friday evening and then in the early 1980’s was moved to an “in school” time model. During the 1980’s and early 1990’s student spectator numbers were very high with the stands usually full, but with very few parents at the carnivals. From the mid 1990’s to the current day, there has been a steady decline in student spectator numbers to the point that most ACC swimming carnivals have few or no student spectators. During the same time period the number of Parent spectators has increased and the overall standard of the meets has improved in terms of swimming and event management.

The ACC Council was then asked to consider undertaking some research with the ACC schools and community to ascertain if the general consensus is that we should consider moving the A Division Swimming Carnival back to a twilight/evening event. The purpose being to increase the opportunity for families to attend the carnival and to raise the community profile of our top swimming division.  At this point in time there is no suggestion to move the other carnival divisions. The move would also allow other divisions opportunity to swim indoors.

Community Survey

The ACC is conducting a “Have Your Say!” survey through social media channels. This is simply to provide a snapshot of community thinking on the suggestion and a rough gauge of interest in making the change. The community survey will be open to anyone to complete. Schools have a part to play in helping the ACC gauge community thoughts on this matter. Should you wish to voice your thoughts, the link to the public survey is below.

First Round Win for the Saints

April 12, 2018

The St. Stephen’s Boys Senior Football team started their tilt at the 2018 premiership flag in scintillating fashion this past Tuesday with a convincing win over their talented Irene McCormack opponents.

After winning the toss and electing to kick in favour of the northern end, the boys from the Duncraig campus made good use of the strong wind advantage and kicked accurately with four goals in the first half (with three rushed behinds).

Having three scoring opportunities of their own in the first half, there was concern whether Irene McCormack would be able to return the favour in the second half. However, the Saint’s mid and back lines played smart football by reading the wind-assisted flight and negated most attacking plays from their opponents. Consistent second and third efforts also made the difference as our delivery inside our forward fifty was excellent, kicking the first and last goals of the second half to ensure the win.

Final Score:

St. Stephen’s (Duncraig) – 6 goals, 5 behinds (41 points)

Irene McCormack – 3 goals, 5 behinds (23 points)

Shining CAS Stars!

April 4, 2018

Our CAS Sport stars had a jam-packed lineup of grand finals last week, with the Year 9 Boys Basketball team taking out the top spot in their match! The Junior Girls Touch Rugby and the Year 9 and Senior Girls Basketball teams may not have come away with the win, but they put up a stellar fight in some very close-scoring matches. These results place St Stephen’s in third place overall in Summer CAS, which is a great start to the year.

Super effort and teamwork everyone!

A Busy Summer of CAS

March 29, 2018

I would like to thank Anna Pargeter, our CAS sport organiser, for her efforts and hard work in regard to Inter-School Sport. We have more teams and more sports represented than ever before.  I would also like to commend the swimming team and the staff who coached them. We came third in A Division – and when results across all divisions (A through to I) were combined – we came 3rd out of 80 schools and were only 7 points off second place! Well done to all students, parents and teachers for their support.

Next term the winter CAS season starts. While we are not entering a Year 7 AFL team (we have never managed to sustain a Year 7 team in the past) we are entering a Junior and a Senior Team as always and Year 7 boys can still attend School trials for the Junior Boys AFL team (Years 7,8,9).  A Year 7 Boys Football team has been entered into the North Metro Cup (Dockers Shield), which takes place on Tuesday 12th June in Week 7 of Term 2.

I would like to take this opportunity to wish all of our families a blessed Easter and a safe holiday in a few weeks’ time. Our annual Thanksgiving Service, to which our entire community is invited, takes place in the last week of Term. Please previous correspondence regarding booking a place for your family.
