Oil Painting Workshop
March 11, 2020The Year 10 visual art students had an SSS alumni, Sarah Pearn, deliver an oil painting workshop on Monday. It was Sarah who painted the portrait of Glenda Parkin that is on the wall in the Glenda Parkin Learning Centre. Sarah studied Realist Fine Art at The Florence Academy of Art in Italy, after graduating from St Stephen’s School in 2006. Having moved back to Australia, she now focuses on producing highly traditional, classical portraiture. Her passionate knowledge for oil painting rubbed off on our Year 10 Visual Art students who learnt the skills needed to mix skin tones and blending techniques to create a realistic portrait painting.Students painted portraits and practices mixing skin tones.

WADL Debating… Round 1
March 11, 2020It was the first night of the 2020 Western Australia Debating League (WADL) season and our teams were in action, competing with other local schools. Our novices got their first taste of WADL debating by getting their teeth stuck into whether politics should be a compulsory subject in high school. Our seasoned senior debaters wrestled with the complex role NATO plays in world affairs. With Rookie Debating to come next term (as well as Interhouse Debating), public speaking is alive and well at St Stephen’s!
