C3 & C6 homerooms hit the beach

June 29, 2017

For their service learning homerooms C3 and C6 went to the beach at Whitfords Nodes.

Community engagement pedagogies, often called “service learning,” are ones that combine learning goals and community service in ways that can enhance both student growth and the common good.

Quotes from a few of the students:

“I think service learning is a great idea and more people should do it.”

“What you take from the experience will stay with you for life.”

“Gave me more opportunity to be aware of what is going on in the community.”

There are a number of tasks each student will complete from the 3 mountain task to the Heinz moral dilemma.

Thank you to all those parents who gave permission for your student(s) to be part of the project, we are already getting some great data so far.

Environmental Rehabilitation featuring T2

June 16, 2017

On Wednesday T2 homeroom went on a trip to provide a service to the environment. Students who participate in community-based service-learning enjoy a number of benefits. One benefit of service-learning is that young people are far more likely to remain engaged when they can see that their participation is effecting change. This helps them to realize that they are able to make useful contributions to society through service and social action.

This outing to improve our environment was headed by Mr Biddle and Ms Robert.

“As each has received a gift, use it to serve one another, as good stewards of God’s varied grace.” – Peter 4:10
