Combined Campus Languages PD

November 27, 2017

Our Duncraig campus hosted a languages PD on Monday which involved teachers from both our Duncraig and Carramar campuses. The PD was lead by Kate Reitzenstein, the languages consultant from AISWA, and focused on deepening student engagement with languages through a range of innovative teaching methods. The PD also involved teachers from the primary and secondary schools. I’m sure our students will benefit from this excellent PD opportunity.

Service Tour of India

November 27, 2017

The inaugural trip to India has been an eye-opening experience for staff and students. After a long journey they finally made it to Woodstock School.

Students are immersing themselves in India’s rich culture on the once-in-a-lifetime India Service Tour. On day four at Woodstock, students spent the morning painting the new library at Kaplani Village School, before setting off on an Indian food safari to the town of Mussoorie.

What an amazing opportunity.  Follow the students’ blog here: http://bit.ly/2jUon5K

Below are just a few of the photos from the trip so far:

Blessings from God

November 17, 2017

The school grounds are beautiful and often overlooked on a busy school day. School grounds are probably more important than you think. Students spend up to a quarter of the day in the surrounding grounds.

Please take a moment to appreciate the beautiful environment.

The grounds are tended and maintained by our Property Services team.

Lunch in the Sun

November 14, 2017

The smell was so appetizing and heralded the Cambodia fund raising sausage sizzle. Ms Shanks and Mrs Libbis had a merry band of helpers for the event. Such was the demand for a sausage and a cold drink in the beautiful weather Ms Shanks agreed to an IOU system.

Well done to all!

Remembrance Day Assemblies

November 10, 2017

Students and staff held house assemblies to mark this special day. At 11 am on 11 November 1918 the guns of the Western Front fell silent after more than four years of continuous warfare. The 11th hour of the 11th day of the 11th month attained a special significance in the post-war years.

“They shall grow not old, as we that are left grow old;
Age shall not weary them, nor the years condemn.
At the going down of the sun and in the morning
We will remember them.”

Musical Service in Action: Happy 40th Birthday to Glengarry Hospital

November 9, 2017

We were honoured to receive an invitation to perform at the Glengarry Private Hospital 40th Anniversary Celebration.

Students from the Year 11 and Year 12 Music ATAR classes provided music for this special occasion in the newly landscaped courtyard garden.  After a speech from the hospital CEO, Mila Snyman (Year 12) performed Romberg’s Sonata in E minor opus 38 on ‘cello, accompanied by Mrs Jamison, which was very well received by the audience.

The students led the guests in an enthusiastic rendition of “Happy Birthday” as the enormous hospital birthday cake was cut!

Our Year 11 and Year 12 students, Mr Bourgault and Mrs Jamison then provided background music for the rest of the morning while the guests enjoyed morning tea. The musicians performed in small groups and as soloists –  a woodwind trio, ‘cello duet, ‘cello and violin duet, trombone trio, clarinet solo and ‘cello solo – displaying a diverse array of instruments and a wide variety of music.

The hospital staff were very appreciative of our students’ contribution to the atmosphere of the morning. Our music students are wonderful ambassadors for St Stephen’s School and it is such a pleasure to watch them excel on their instruments.

“My heart, O God, is steadfast, my heart is steadfast; I will sing and make music.” – Psalm 57:7
