Friendly Competition

April 12, 2018
 The Year 7s got a taste of the CAS competition last week, with round robin games of touch rugby, basketball, soccer, cricket and volleyball played against other CAS schools at the Lightning Carnival. Each school hosted a sport and there was lots of fun and healthy competition, with Year 11s completing their Cert II in Sport and Recreation also given opportunity to coach the Year 7 teams.

Law & Order

As part of their Civics and Citizenship studies, theYear 7s have been learning about the Australian legal system, concepts of justice and the rule of law. Luckily enough Mr Graeme Slattery, who is a Year 7 father, is also a lawyer for an international law firm. Mr Slattery kindly offered to speak to the students, providing a real-world example of what it’s like to work in the legal system!

Year 7 Electoral Education Centre Excursion

April 4, 2018

On Wednesday 4th April, Mr Hummerston’s Year 7 HASS class journeyed their way to the Electoral Education Centre near Parliament House to learn about how Australians vote. Whilst there, they learnt lots of new information, showcased their knowledge learnt from class and took place in mock elections. The students seemed to thoroughly enjoy themselves and we hope to one day see their name on a ballot paper!

Year 7 Stop Motion

On Friday 16th March, Mr Hummerston’s Year 7 Media class took to creating their own Claymation characters by making their own play-dough. Whilst the task was incredibly messy there were some very successful playdough artists.

Look out for their final short films which are currently in production!

Coffee & Conversation

Transitioning into Secondary School can be a bit daunting for students and parents as their children move into the next stage of their schooling. We have an event coming up for parents of Year 7s to come and chat and see how they’re adapting in class.

This Friday (March 16) Duncraig Secondary will hold their first Coffee and Conversation for 2018 where Year 7 Coordinator Suzy Mettam will discuss the transition into Secondary in the Community Room from 8.30-9.30am. Attendance is free. Contact the School for more information.

Triumphant Return from Camp

February 23, 2018

The Year 7’s enjoyed their yearly camp and were blessed with perfect weather conditions.

Students and staff spent a glorious three days at Ern Halliday Recreation Camp. This place is a sanctuary in the suburbs, a place where the students could participate in unique and exciting outdoor activities.

What a wonderful experience.

National Assessment Program – Literacy and Numeracy (NAPLAN)

Next week Year 7 and 9 students will bring home an information booklet about the National Assessment Program – Numeracy and Literacy. This contains details of the assessment program and how you can support your child. Please ask your child to hunt around in their school bag so this information does not get lost! Plenty of Smiling Faces as the Year 7s enjoy their Orientation Morning

A huge welcome to our new Year 7 cohort, starting today at St Stephen’s School. We look forward to having you as part of our school community for the next 6 years.

Our Year 7s arrived looking excited and a little bit nervous in readiness for an action-packed day.

They started off with a  Orientation Morning in the Secondary Library which included bookmarking important sites, SEQTA access, Office 365, and their school email account.
