NAPLAN Results

NAPLAN individual reports and the explanatory brochure will be distributed to students via Homeroom on Friday 25 August. While the test represents a single snapshot on a specific day, it does provide useful information about both the group of students and about individual students.

Did you know that 75 per cent of the fastest growing occupations now require STEM skills and knowledge?

STEM education is the learning of science, technology, engineering and mathematics in an interdisciplinary or integrated approach.

As part of science week last week, our School welcomed STEM professionals into their classrooms. Students even participated in a virtual classroom discussion with scientists working in the space industry.

Write a Book in a Day

Book in a Day is a team writing competition for Year 5 to 12 . The book has to be completed withing 12 hours using unique set of writing parameters. Completed books are given to children in hospitals.

Write a Book in a Day was the brain-child of Chris Oakeley, Murray Barton, Frank Mackie and Lara Mackie of the Katharine Susannah Prichard Writers’ Centre (KSP), the oldest writers’ centre of its kind in Australia. The Centre encourages and facilitates writers’ readings, workshops, writers in residence and other services, all designed to help and encourage writers at all levels of the craft in Western Australian.

Funds raised by Write a Book in a Day teams go toward childhood cancer research to improve treatments and find a cure.

Mrs Cunningham and her budding authors began the process of Making a Book in a Day at 7:30 this morning and will finish at 7:30 pm.

Story ideas are first written on the white board wall before the story writing begins.

·       K-Track – Information about this award winning 14-week course which equips Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander students with key skills to gain an alternative pathway into a broad range of undergraduate degrees.

·       Media Portfolio Prep Day – An opportunity on Friday 29th September for Year 12 students to participate in creative workshops conducted by our academics, get feedback on their work and learn how to compile it all into a stunning portfolio for submission via the Creative Portfolio application pathway.

The scholarship is for academically gifted students (in the top 5% of students) who have excelled in a wide range of endeavours and have lent their talents and energies to the community around them. Candidates must demonstrate John Curtin’s qualities of vision, leadership, and community service.

Maggie Dent’s new seminar Nurturing Kids Hearts and Souls

We are delighted to announce tickets for Maggie Dent’s new seminar Nurturing Kids Hearts and Souls are now available.

This event is proudly presented by Duncraig Primary School P&C (Public School) and supported by St Stephen’s School.

We are excited to have Maggie back at our Carramar Campus following her outstanding presentation in 2015. Originally planned to be held at an alternate venue by the organisers (Duncraig Primary School P&C), we are thrilled that our facility support has enabled an opportunity for our parents to attend as well.

The seminar will focus on exploring the unspoken dimension of raising healthy children, and the nurturing of children’s hearts and souls. Children are struggling with the modern world and this will show you why and what can be done in order to raise healthy, happy kids.

Maggie will explore EQ and SQ (the emotional and spiritual equivalent of IQ), the role of imagination, intuition, play and how to strengthen the human spirit in your home.

Tickets are limited so please book early to avoid disappointment.

2017 Surfing School Title

August 17, 2017

On Tuesday 15th 12 students braved the weather and competed in the metro Surfing School Title Surfing Competition. With tricky conditions all teams made it through the first heat and battled it out in the semi-finals where one team qualified for the grand final. Congratulations to Cooper Duxbury and Robert Fleay who took out the senior boys body boarding final and who will be heading to the state finals in a couple weeks. All involved should be commended on their efforts and their behaviour on the day.

Important notice: National data collection on students with a disability

Dear Parents,

The Nationally Consistent Collection of Data on school students with disability (NCCD) provides all Australian schools, education authorities and the community with a clear picture of the number of students receiving adjustments because of disability in schools, and the adjustments they are provided to enable them to participate in education on the same basis as other students.

The Australian Education Regulation 2013, requires that all schools, provide information to the Australian Government Department of Education and Training (the Department) for the purposes of the NCCD.

The information that Schools must give to the Department includes, in relation to each student with a disability at a school:

  • the student’s level of education (i.e. primary or secondary)
  • the student’s category of disability (i.e. physical, cognitive, sensory or social/emotional)
  • the student’s level of adjustment (i.e. support provided within quality differentiated teaching practice, supplementary, substantial or extensive adjustment).

Spray-On-Skin Presentation

The Year 12 students were treated to a two-hour presentation on Spray-On-Skin by the renowned Professor Fiona Wood today.

Professor Wood’s greatest contribution and enduring legacy is her work pioneering the innovative ‘spray-on skin’ technique (Recell), which greatly reduces permanent scarring in burns victims. Professor Wood patented her method in 1993 and today the technique is used worldwide.

Spray-on skin is a patented skin culturing treatment for burn victims, developed by scientist Marie Stoner and plastic surgeon Dr Fiona Wood. Professor Wood’s treatment is under ongoing development.

Thanks to our innovative technology Carramar Year 12 students could watch the presentation live using our extended classrooms.

An Experience of Bali through Music and Dance

Experience the Cultural Wonders of Bali in a live theatre performance being held at Duncraig.

Balinese dance is dynamic, angular and intensely expressive. Eling Nusantara develop and combine the traditional dance, new creation dance and modern dance.

This performance is not suitable for children under 5 years.
