On Tuesday 13th and Friday 16th of June, Year 8 students currently studying Indonesian visited the Indonesian Consulate to learn about Gamelan music and traditional dancing in a series of workshops. It was a wonderful opportunity for students to deepen their understanding of Indonesian Culture and traditions.
Recently our Year 12 cohort went on retreat to Swanleigh.
Swanleigh is located on 89 acres of picturesque rural land on the banks of the Swan River.
The camps and retreats are places where students can step out of their usual environment and try some new learning activities. It is always good to have new, positive experiences. School camps/retreats offer this in spades! It important for everyone to do new things and learn new skills.

Over the next three weeks, Year 10-12 students are invited on Wednesday evenings to our South Street Campus to hear more about courses in the Arts, Engineering & Information Technology and Health. Attendees will have the opportunity to hear from current students, tour specialised facilities and learn more about pathways for admission in to these courses. Bookings are highly recommended.

Come and join us for our Health Careers Evening to learn more about Murdoch University’s undergraduate courses. Tour our specialist Nursing and Chiropractic facilities and hear from current staff and students about the courses on offer, practical experiences, taking your learning overseas and scholarships.
Courses covered include Biomedical Science, Chiropractic Science, Clinical Exercise Physiology, Clinical Laboratory Science, Laboratory Medicine, Movement Science, Nursing, Psychology and Sport and Health Science.
Recently Year 11 students went on an excursion to the city.
Students took part in observational drawing and they collected source photos for their upcoming Cityscape paintings.
We have 215 students that are entered. It is all of our Mathematics 1 students and Yr 11/12 Specialist students.
The Australian Mathematics Competition (AMC) was introduced in Australia in 1978 as the first Australia-wide mathematics competition for students. It has become the largest single event on the Australian education calendar, allowing students to attempt the same tasks on the same day in over 30 countries around the globe.
Running since 1978, the AMC is for students of all standards. Students are asked to solve 30 problems in 60 minutes (Years 3–6) or 75 minutes (Years 7–12). The problems are designed to test mathematical thinking rather than focus on calculations themselves, thus such questions are designed so that they can be answered just as quickly without a calculator as with one. The problems get more difficult through the competition, so that at the end they are challenging to the most gifted students. Students of all standards will make progress through the problems, and also be challenged along the way.

Last week Year 9 went on an adventure camp to Nanga near Dwellingup.

Gary Cass visited Year 12 Human Biology students last week and they learnt how to test and match DNA fingerprints.
Students ran gel electrophoresis with real DNA fingerprints to find out if the suspects were guilty or innocent.
Gary Cass is passionate about creativity in science. He argues that creativity is as important as numeracy and literacy. He founded Fermented Fashion, a Perth-based company that has developed couture made from beer and wine. He gives various Tedx Talks.

Year 8 students visited our Year 6 students last week as part of the ongoing PrimEights Mentoring Program. Students spoke about friendships, school, life and even played games of basketball, netball and handball. It’s great seeing their friendships grow!
