Rite Journey – great celebration
March 16, 2018The Year 9 students participated in the Calling and Departure ceremony yesterday morning, bright and early (5:30am) at Sorrento foreshore. The ceremony calls all Year 9 students to accept the challenge of growing up, reflecting on who they are, where they are going and how they will positively contribute to our World. This is obviously a life-long challenge, but yesterday could certainly mark a memory for them as a starting point for their introspection.
A HUGE thank you must go to Nicola Kirby for organising a breakfast feast for about 450 people down on the foreshore – all happily cooked by our house captains and the fabulous Phil Timms and Nicola Resta.
Please join me in congratulating our students on their ceremony AND the Rite Journey staff for their tireless support of our Year 9 students – Sue Libbis, Andrea Tinney, Nicola Kirby, Andre Bourgault, Clay Osborne and Bennet Andrews.

Rite Journey Starts
March 15, 2018
This morning marked the start of the journey to adulthood the start of the Rite Journey program.
The program will be over long before any of the Year 9s are adults – and each of them will mature differently and at different paces at different times. Over the next 10 years they will outgrow and be outgrown by friends and they will start to have a real sense of who they are and who they might aspire to be.
The Rite Journey program takes several key qualities and strengths: it requires a willingness to trust others; it requires the courage to tackle tasks and possibly fail; it requires the maturity to decide to do something to the best of ones ability and to care for and respect the trust of others.
Today is called the “Departure” because is a ritual marking the start of the journey. The walk up the coast is a metaphor to remind them that they are starting something, the Rite Journey.

Rite Journey EBA Exhibition
September 18, 2017The EBA exhibition is part of the Year 9 Rite Journey mentoring program. Student work with a mentor throughout the year to create a project. The project is a space for mentoring to take place.
The range of projects is wonderful to see, especially the service initiatives that have taken place.

Heart of Gold
September 11, 2017
Year 9 student Zac Grosser raised more than $2300 for the Heart Foundation when he ran the 12km City to Surf last month.
The race was Zac’s first ever long distance race and he did it with his uncle who has had a heart condition.
Zac raised the money as part of his EBA project for Rite Journey.
We salute you Zac!

Rite Journey Ceremony

The Rite Journey provides unique educational programs designed to support the development of self-aware, vital, responsible, respectful & resilient adults.
By raising young people’s consciousness about transitioning from child to adult and having conversations with them about what really matters we can assist in guiding their journey into adulthood.
The year-long program uses a Rite of Passage framework to deepen the students’ experience of this important life transition.
A few words of thanks from Mr Dale Kelly:
Thank you for your wonderful efforts this morning and during the heat of the hike.
We had many parents commenting on how much they enjoyed being at Sorrento.
The students had a great time today and I think it was a wonderful opportunity for them to bond and to feel a sense of accomplishment.
I must make a special mention to Nicola Kirby who on the strength of this morning’s efforts could easily start a buffet breakfast bar – YOU ARE AN ABSOLUTE STAR!!!!!!
You know that your efforts today were above and beyond what is expected and for that I thank you.
