EXPLORING WA

November 28, 2019

Y11 Biology students investigated the range of ecosystems down Busselton. They explored the underwater observatory and was amazed by the marine life, the beaches and their unique vegetation to sustain life in harsh environments, nocturnal organisms by spotlight and the awesome Ngilgi cave.

POETRY IN ACTION

November 6, 2019

The theatre group Poetry In Action recently visited the Duncraig campus to present ‘Words of War’ to our Year 11 ATAR English and ATAR Literature students. The presentation focused on the works of Wilfred Owen, a WWI poet, and explored the potential and power of words to capture the inhumanity of war. Not only was the performance entertaining, it will help students in preparing for their Semester 2 exams.

STRENGTH IN NUMBERS

September 19, 2019

Five Year 10 teams and three Year 11/12 teams recently took part in the School Sport WA Touch Rugby Competition. Made up of Sport Science students, the teams enjoyed an action-packed day, with the Year 12 Girls team particularly showing their strength on the field!

STARS OF THE SILVER SCREEN

August 29, 2019

Year 11s dressed to the nines as stars of the Silver Screen for their River Cruise recently. The night was a great success filled with dancing, laughter and making memories. Deciding the winners of the costume competition proved difficult with some very imaginative gets-ups including Winnie the Pooh, Top Gun, 101 Dalmatians, Prank Patrol and The Jokers. It was a tie for first place with Adam Fletcher (Halo) and Rylan Cunnane (Elton John) taking out the $100 gift voucher.

AWARD-WINNING ART

After six of our senior students were featured in the 2019 St George’s Art Exhibition, we now have an award winner in our midst!

Will Boutle (Year 11) was highly commended for his piece ‘Man and Machine’ at the Exhibition’s Awards Night on Thursday.

TALENT ON SHOW

Three of our senior students have been selected to feature their artwork in the prestigious 2019 St George’s Art Exhibition. Be sure to visit St George’s Cathedral to see their stunning work on display before the exhibition closes on Sunday!

THE BARISTAS ARE BACK

The baristas are back in Duncraig Secondary, with Year 11 students practicing their skills as part of their Certificate II in Hospitality. With staff members keen to sample the warm cuppas in these winter months, students are certainly getting lots of practice as they work towards their qualification!

INSPIRING ARTIST

April 21, 2019

Year 11s recently joined Artist in Residence Rohin Kickett, a Noongar artist from the Ballardong region, for a two-hour workshop at Midland Junction Arts Centre. Students were asked to consider their own identity and connection to place, producing abstract representational paintings inspired by the Rohin’s techniques.
