National Assessment Program – Literacy and Numeracy (NAPLAN)

February 14, 2018

Next week Year 7 and 9 students will bring home an information booklet about the National Assessment Program – Numeracy and Literacy. This contains details of the assessment program and how you can support your child. Please ask your child to hunt around in their school bag so this information does not get lost! If you have any questions please do not hesitate to contact the school.

Jehova Jireh Haven say a BIG Thank You!

February 14, 2018

Dear St Stephen’s community

Jehova Jireh Haven and the Kelly family wish to extend our utmost gratitude for the generosity of the St Stephen’s community. Your support allowed 89 orphans and 14 carers to enjoy a Christmas celebration that they will remember for a long time. They had a lovely Lamb Spit topped off with chocolate brownies. The children also enjoyed face painting, a bouncy castle, fairy floss and a camera booth.

Each child received a gift bag filled with a toy, new clothes, underwear, toiletries, stationary and, of course, lollies.

We are blessed to be part of this community.

Yours sincerely,

Dale Kelly

Making the library a lunchtime staple

February 14, 2018

One of the busiest times in the Secondary Library is lunchtime.

Once-upon-a-time, during lunch, the library was often only used by students wanting to explore literature and by others looking for a quiet space away from the playground, but what’s lovely is that today’s library is now being inundated by students for new reasons. There is a special ‘cafe’ area where students can sit and relax, enjoy their lunch, and perhaps purchase a caffeine and sugar free drink from the vending machine.

Students are working closely together and are forming meaningful social bonds in these spaces.

“Two are better than one; because they have a good reward for their labor.” – Ecclesiastes 4:9

Barista Coffee Tuesday

February 13, 2018

Staff were following the wonderful aroma of fresh coffee today as queues formed in the LPC kitchen.

The hospitality students prepare and serve coffee, mocha,  hot chocolate and heart-shaped jam droplets. They are learning basic skills and confidence to work as a barista. These skills will also help  them to prepare great-tasting coffee at home. Students learn the basic theory of coffee making, origin of coffee, different types of coffee which are commonly served in Australia. They practice  by using a commercial espresso coffee machine all under the watchful eye of Mrs. Penny Herd.

“When God’s people are in need, be ready to help them. Always be eager to practice hospitality” – Romans 12:13.

Year 12 Ball

February 13, 2018

The School Ball is a major social event for our Year 12 students. It was held last Saturday at the Pan Pacific Hotel. The students dressed to impress and danced the night away. It was amazing to see the transformation from everyday student to stunning, incredible young adults who looked like movie stars on the red carpet. Students and staff members enjoyed a lovely meal in an opulent setting.
