The Big Splash finale at the Perth Convention and Exhibition Centre

March 20, 2018

Duncraig Visual Arts staff students painted and decorated their dolphin, “Finlay” and our Visual Art Technician extraordinaire, Claire Davenhall, had two dolphins, “Icebreaker” and “Inter Aqua” exhibited. Funds from the auction of these dolphins go to support Perth Children’s Hospital Foundation. The purpose of the project being to promote positive mental health and awareness in young people.

They both sold at Auction last night! The dolphins raised over $128,000 last night for Perth Children’s Hospital Foundation.

STUDENTS SCULPTS PARALLEL PERSPECTIVES

March 20, 2018

Inspired by her own personal experience, Nikki Coleman (Duncraig Class of 2017) has proved the making of a great artist lies in the ability to convey a narrative. Nikki’s remarkable artwork ‘Penthesilea’ has earned her a place in the latest Year 12 Perspectives Art Exhibition.

The gravity of the situation…

March 20, 2018

As part of the Year 9 Earth and Space Science course, the students have been looking at how gravity played a significant role in the formation of the solar system and the planets within it, including the Earth.

The students simulated the curving of space time and how this causes matter to clump together and in some cases, go into orbit!

Bunnings Training Day Success!

March 17, 2018

Well done to everyone for completing the Bunnings Day Training Session! Remember how to use the tools and skills you learned because they’ll come in handy when we are in South Africa.

  • Power drill (wood and masonry)
  • Torque wrench (screws, nuts and bolts)
  • Saws (jigsaw and hand saw)
  • Painting (rolling and brushing around trim)
  • Liquid Nails
  • Paving (measuring, levelling, cutting and laying)
  • Bricklaying (making ‘mud’ to keep bricks together and pavers from shifting)

A special ‘Thank you’ goes to Belinda and her team of professionals at the Joondalup Bunnings for hosting this very important training session. Not only did they provide you with the necessary skills and safety training you need while we’re on tour, but they also donated a lot of sports equipment for the children we will be visiting in South Africa.

Rite Journey – great celebration

March 16, 2018

The Year 9 students participated in the Calling and Departure ceremony yesterday morning, bright and early (5:30am) at Sorrento foreshore. The ceremony calls all Year 9 students to accept the challenge of growing up, reflecting on who they are, where they are going and how they will positively contribute to our World. This is obviously a life-long challenge, but yesterday could certainly mark a memory for them as a starting point for their introspection.

A HUGE thank you must go to Nicola Kirby for organising a breakfast feast for about 450 people down on the foreshore – all happily cooked by our house captains and the fabulous Phil Timms and Nicola Resta.

Please join me in congratulating our students on their ceremony AND the Rite Journey staff for their tireless support of our Year 9 students – Sue Libbis, Andrea Tinney, Nicola Kirby, Andre Bourgault, Clay Osborne and Bennet Andrews.

The Big Splash Free Tickets

March 16, 2018

The Perth Children’s Hospital Foundation has decided to release free tickets for all sessions on Sunday. However, tickets need to be booked to secure places as numbers are limited. There are still free tickets available see.

We encourage all school families to come along to the Farewell Event on Sunday 19th.  See all the amazing large dolphin trail sculptures and  find your own school’s special mascot back in its pod. The event is a wonderful chance for families to learn more about The Big Splash WA and support child and adolescent mental health services at PMH, which so many West Australian children and families rely on in times of need.

Welcome Return of Girls AFL

March 15, 2018

Girls AFL is back after 15 years at our campus! Sporty students from Years 10-12 hit the field for their first training session this week, coached by Year 12 student Dane Webster. We can’t wait to see these footballers kicking goals when the season starts next term. Go girls!

The girls playing in the AFLW proved that sportswomen can be front and centre, and hold their own.” – Unknown
