Certificate II in Hospitality students hosted a Pop Up Café last week, inviting our friends from Rocky Bay along for lunch. Students cooked and served delicious meals for their guests, which of course included dessert!
Congratulations to Abigail Kemp, Year 12, for placing third in Hospitality Group Training WA‘s 2019 Taste of the Future Competition! Competing in a Masterchef-style competition alongside six other students from around Perth, Abi displayed her culinary skills as she highlighted shark as the key ingredient.
The baristas are back in Duncraig Secondary, with Year 11 students practicing their skills as part of their Certificate II in Hospitality. With staff members keen to sample the warm cuppas in these winter months, students are certainly getting lots of practice as they work towards their qualification!
Staff were following the wonderful aroma of fresh coffee today as queues formed in the LPC kitchen.
The hospitality students prepare and serve coffee, mocha, hot chocolate and heart-shaped jam droplets. They are learning basic skills and confidence to work as a barista. These skills will also help them to prepare great-tasting coffee at home. Students learn the basic theory of coffee making, origin of coffee, different types of coffee which are commonly served in Australia. They practice by using a commercial espresso coffee machine all under the watchful eye of Mrs. Penny Herd.
“When God’s people are in need, be ready to help them. Always be eager to practice hospitality” – Romans 12:13.
